About us

For 130 years, Chicago Commons’ mission has been to partner with individuals, families, and communities to overcome poverty, discrimination, and isolation. Chicago Commons enables families to break the cycle of poverty by providing early education, strengthening parents and caring for the elderly, while also advocating for their equal chance at success. From our first settlement house, we’ve centered ourselves in underserved communities to give our neighbors the tools and skills they need to reach their greatest potential.

This past weekend, the Chicago Commons' CELC Board met for our annual retreat at our Early Childhood Education Center in Humboldt Park. After taking a deep dive into our new branding and messaging, led by Kris Casey, we had a productive working session where we focused on planning our outreach initiatives for the coming fiscal year and beyond. Last year, we successfully hosted three events, including: an Ice Cream Social for our Adult Day Services; a Mock-Interview workshop with our Family Hub leaders; and a networking event for our colleagues to introduce them to the organization. We are excited to continue this work and expand our service within the Chicago Commons' community. Thank you to Kris Casey, Lyndsi Barboza, and Brendan Carmack for helping organize a successful and constructive retreat. A huge thank you to Sharon Moy for leading CELC as Chair for the past few years. As the rising Chair, I have big shoes to fill, but am excited to take on the role. Also, I am excited to have kanav bhatheja co-leading CELC with me as he steps into the Vice-Chair role. Lastly, thank you to the following CELC members who were able to join this weekend to help take our Board to the next level of leadership: Katheryn Meagher; Jessica (Perkins) Newman; Clint Mefford; Kanav Bhatheja; Sharon Moy; Jaime Rehm. #CELC #ChicagoCommons #ThrivingAcrossGenerations
