About us
Chicago Defender is an African-American newspaper serving the Chicagoland area for over a century long. The Chicago Defender is the 2009 winner of NNPA's John B. Russwurm Award serving as the "Best African-American" newspaper in the Country". The Chicago Defender along with the Defender Charities are the producers and organizers of the world famous Bud Billiken Day parade and picnic, started back in 1929; the second largest parade in our nation.
