Development Update: Lathrop South Campus moves forward   An amendment allowing Tax Increment Finance (TIF) coverage to extend to the next phase of Lathrop, one of CHA’s original public housing sites, was approved by the Community Development Commission today. This is the latest step in completing the next phase of the redevelopment project, which will add 309 new or renovated mixed-income apartments, and address all remaining buildings on the South Campus at the historic site. “We are one step closer to completing our vision for the new Lathrop: a vibrant and sustainable mixed-income, mixed-use community where all families, including those who live in subsidized housing, feel welcome and can thrive,” said CHA CEO Tracey Scott.   Lathrop Community Partners (CHA’s development partner) will rehabilitate seven existing historic buildings on the South Campus of the site, while three existing buildings will be demolished to add an accessible new construction building with an elevator, as well as additional parking and open space. The exterior of the “Powerhouse building” will also be renovated. The 309 apartments will include 121 subsidized apartments for families from the CHA’s waitlist, 92 affordable and 96 market-rate apartments. The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2027. Once finished, there will be 797 total mixed-income apartments in the Lathrop community. #DevelopmentUpdate #affordablehousing

Providing our residents with high quality property management services and being responsive to their needs is the Chicago Housing Authority’s top priority. Earlier this month, The Habitat Company, LLC notified CHA that they are planning to discontinue providing property management services for 16 CHA buildings, which together serve about 3,400 apartments. CHA is in talks with Habitat to ensure that this withdrawal meets their contractual obligations and that the transition to new management is done in an orderly and seamless manner. CHA is actively working to secure new property managers who will be in place when Habitat’s service ends. We are deploying a comprehensive plan to ensure a smooth transition and do not anticipate adverse impact to residents or day-to-day operations. CHA is communicating with residents who live in these buildings about the upcoming changes and will be hosting resident meetings when new property management teams are identified. www.thecha.org

I was diagnosed with Cancer in May 2023, and I was afraid I would lose my home. CHA HOME's Choose To Own (CTO) program provided help to maintain my mortgage payments. I was paying market rent and it was more than a mortgage. The CTO program will provide you with the information and criteria to see if you qualify; and will make sure you understand the next steps to begin your home journey. I am still in my home and current with my mortgage, light, gas, and water bills. I also participated in other CHA programs that assisted me with saving money and managing my funds. Learn more about HOME's CTO program on the CHA website here: https://lnkd.in/gtbzX2TY
