October is #NationalDisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth. In honor of NDEAM, #GetHired host Andrew Seaman spoke with Paralympic Gold Medalist Matt Stutzman, AKA the ‘Armless Archer.’ Matt, who was born without arms, struggled to land a job for years because employers assumed he wasn’t capable of doing the work. So Matt turned to archery as a way of feeding his family. Today, he’s considered one of the best long-distance shooters in the world. 🎯 But it was only after Matt won Silver at his first Olympic Games in 2012 that employers could finally see past his disability. “All those companies that told me ‘no’ were like, ‘Hey, you want a job?’ Matt explains. “It wasn’t like they wanted me to work for ‘em because I’d won a medal. It’s because they’re like, ‘Woah, he can do stuff.’” So, what’s Matt’s message to employers? “When someone with a disability walks in, just have an open mind of who they are. Don’t make decisions based on what they look like.” Listen to the full conversation on this week’s episode of #GetHired: 🎧Apple: https://lnkd.in/dVea4DB4 🎧Spotify: https://lnkd.in/dHtzEz7B
