“We are not the institution to handle this by ourselves; we will because we must. This problem is bigger than us, and until those around us step in and join us and lock arms, we will continue to be an answer, but we are not the nation’s solution.” This America's Safe Schools Week, we are spotlighting our member Supt. Andrea Castañeda for her leadership in introducing weapons detection systems in her district's high schools. This decision highlights a critical truth: ensuring the safety of all students is a responsibility we must face head-on. The need for this level of vigilance raises important questions about the challenges facing America's public schools today. Still, we remain committed to advocating for the well-being of every child. At Chiefs for Change, we are proud to support all our leaders who do what's necessary to protect our students and safeguard their communities. Our members don’t shrink from tough challenges—they rise to them with courage and conviction, knowing that lasting solutions will come when we all work together.
Today Salem-Keizer Public Schools announced the decision to install weapon detection systems in our high schools. Hit play for one superintendent’s perspective on the questions that SHOULD have been asked at the press conference in which we made our announcement.
