Well done, Dr. Nathaniel Beers! Another accomplishment from #AAP2024.
So honored to have received the Milton JE Senn Award from the Council of School Health American Academy of Pediatrics recognizing me for work in partnership with schools. As pediatricians, there is so much we can do with schools to support the healthy growth and development of children and adolescents. I have had the unique opportunity to shape policy and practice for children and adolescents in schools District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), DC Department of Health, and Children's National Hospital. I have also had to partner with amazing organizations and individuals such as Maya Martin Cadogan, Special Olympics, Team IMPACT, Inc., Josephine Bias Robinson and so many others who have taught me so much about working with schools and families. I have also been able to lead an amazing team Children's National Hospital for the last several years including some presenting this weekend Dr Jaytoya Manget, Dr Sarah Durrin, and Dr Danielle Dooley, and so many others leading in this field. #AAPNCE2024

New research reveals third of teens and young adults in the U.S. struggle with “period poverty,” or the inability to afford or access menstrual products. Our team surveyed nearly two thousand young people and found that 32.9% experienced period poverty, higher than previous reports. Dr. Monika Goyal, co-director of the Center for Translational Research at Children’s National, stated, “This is reflective of a larger issue with respect to access. This is about having difficulty affording menstrual health products.” Read more in this NBC news feature. http://spr.ly/6043o2QGZ

At Children’s National, the Dome family embodies the commitment to pediatric oncology. Dr. Jeffrey Dome, Senior Vice President of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, and his daughter Amelia Dome, M.S.N., R.N., work together to provide exceptional care to oncology patients. Amelia joined the organization as a Hematology/Oncology nurse in 2022, and their unique partnership has strengthened the team dynamic, enhancing communication between nurses and physicians. Their family’s dedication to pediatrics is a testament to the deep, lasting impact that compassionate care can have on both patients and their families. 💛🔗 https://lnkd.in/eDJZrkFi
