Critical care is provided in the hospital's 36-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and 20-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). The hospital's Jack M. Weiss Emergency Care Center, one of the area's busiest emergency rooms, is staffed around the clock by board-certified pediatricians, with the availability of a full range of pediatric specialists. The Emergency Department has a total of 37 exam rooms and is supported by a nursing staff specially trained to handle pediatric emergencies. Outpatient appointments with pediatric specialists are offered Monday through Friday at the Ambulatory Care Center on the hospital campus and at the hospital's satellite locations: The Metairie Center, Children's Hospital Outpatient Center of Baton Rouge and Children's Hospital Burdin Riehl Clinic in Lafayette, Louisiana. • Congratulations to our extraordinary nurse, Michelle Sclafini, Radiology Technologist, who was honored as our Champion of Nursing! This award is given to a team member who demonstrates dedication to our patients and valuable assistance to the nursing profession. 💙 🤍 Michelle has been a Radiology Tech at the Northshore Center since 2019. However, she does far more for our clinic than any one position can outline. Michelle goes above and beyond not only for her patients, but for the entire staff on the Northshore and embodies the CHNOLA values every day. Michelle supports the clinic, nurses, and providers by not only performing her x-ray duties (and performing them expertly), but she is cross trained in multiple other areas in order to be able to fill in wherever she is needed. She is one of our primary phlebotomists, she is able to support her own provider in clinic efficiently while also performing x-rays and drawing labs, which takes some of the burden off the nurses during clinic. She jumps in to register and check out patients, answer phones, make appointments and do whatever is needed without hesitation. Michelle also goes out of her way to ensure everyone on the Northshore team is included and feels a sense of belonging. Michelle is an enormous help to clinic management by exhibiting leadership and problem-solving skills all while displaying positivity and warmth in all her interactions. Even when she isn’t at work, Michelle is committed to supporting our community largely by co-managing 15 sober living houses throughout St Tammany. The Northshore clinic would not be nearly as successful or as fun without the hard work and dedication that Michelle personifies. We are so #CHNOLAproud of you, Michelle, and thank you to ALL of our extraordinary nurses and those who support the nursing profession! 💗🤍💗🤍💗 #PediatricNursesWeek #InOurPediatricNursesEra

  • Today we gathered with friends, supporters, community leaders, and staff to celebrate a new chapter for Children’s Hospital New Orleans’ longstanding child abuse pediatrics programs with the grand opening of the new Morgan Rae Center for Hope. 💙 The new, expanded center will house the hospital’s CARE Center and Child Advocacy Center, enabling significantly more children to be served thanks to a transformational $1.5 million gift from philanthropist Jessica Brandt. The center is named in loving memory of Mrs. Brandt’s late great-granddaughter, Morgan Rae. The Center will help more children receive the care they need when there are concerns of abuse, neglect or child trafficking, with a trauma-informed, multidisciplinary approach.
