About us
Children’s National Hospital, based in Washington, D.C., was established in 1870 to help every child grow up stronger. Today, it is the No. 5 children’s hospital in the nation and ranked in all specialties evaluated by U.S. News & World Report. Children’s National is transforming pediatric medicine for all children. The Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus opened in 2021, a first-of-its-kind pediatric hub dedicated to developing new and better ways to care for kids. Children’s National has been designated three times in a row as a Magnet® hospital, demonstrating the highest standards of nursing and patient care delivery. This pediatric academic health system offers expert care through a convenient, community-based primary care network and specialty care locations in the D.C. metropolitan area, including Maryland and Virginia. Children’s National is home to the Children’s National Research Institute and Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. It is recognized for its expertise and innovation in pediatric care and as a strong voice for children through advocacy at the local, regional and national levels. As a non-profit, Children's National relies on generous donors to help ensure that every child receives the care they need.

Congratulations to the Nursing and Patient Care teams on successfully submitting our Magnet® document for redesignation last week! Since first receiving Magnet designation in 2010, we have remained among the less than 10 percent of hospitals nationwide to achieve this highest recognition for nursing excellence. The submission of our document marks the beginning of our journey toward earning this prestigious honor for the fourth time. "I’m so proud of our nurses and patient care teams for their dedication and excellence in delivering the best care to our patients,” said Linda Talley, chief nursing officer. “It’s the passion, expertise, and heart of our nurses that make us a Magnet® hospital – a place where the best come to work and grow."

Well done, Dr. Nathaniel Beers! Another accomplishment from #AAP2024.
So honored to have received the Milton JE Senn Award from the Council of School Health American Academy of Pediatrics recognizing me for work in partnership with schools. As pediatricians, there is so much we can do with schools to support the healthy growth and development of children and adolescents. I have had the unique opportunity to shape policy and practice for children and adolescents in schools District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), DC Department of Health, and Children's National Hospital. I have also had to partner with amazing organizations and individuals such as Maya Martin Cadogan, Special Olympics, Team IMPACT, Inc., Josephine Bias Robinson and so many others who have taught me so much about working with schools and families. I have also been able to lead an amazing team Children's National Hospital for the last several years including some presenting this weekend Dr Jaytoya Manget, Dr Sarah Durrin, and Dr Danielle Dooley, and so many others leading in this field. #AAPNCE2024
