Children's Institute believes in the abundant potential of all children, families and communities.
About us
Children's Institute was founded in 1906 and has been serving the Los Angeles community for more than 100 years. Children's Institute works primarily in communities impacted by decades of underinvestment including Echo Park, Watts, Compton, and Long Beach. Children's Institute supports 30,000 children and families annually in achieving emotional well-being and educational success, which build pathways to economic mobility and lifelong health. Our highly qualified and compassionate teachers, therapists, and care coordinators are the cornerstone of our work. We are fortunate to witness the many wins that families experience through our programs and services, from the "aha"! moments in the classroom to the breakthroughs in counseling sessions. It would not be possible without the care and expertise staff bring to their roles and the confidence they inspire in the people they support. As part of our "Meet the Reporter" series, we want to share the latest interview we had with Elly Yu, the Senior Reporter at LAist We had the opportunity to get the know the person behind the stories and reporting she is known for, in the early childhood beat. Through this series, we aim to highlight reporters who advocate for and highlight the issues & policies that affect the children and families we serve. One way of doing this is by providing timely & relevant information to our communities directly from experts in the field. Thank you, Elly, for your public service through journalism. https://lnkd.in/gM4d3amu

In light of #SuicidePreventionMonth, we’re sharing Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s post on effective mental health support. If you know anyone who is struggling with their mental health, we encourage you to #StartTheConversation. Start these vital conversations to break down barriers, raise awareness and create a system of support. Let’s move from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding and support. Together, we are better.
Cultural sensitivity is key to effective mental health support. Let's celebrate diversity and provide culturally competent care for all. Together, we can create a more supportive and inclusive community. samhsa.gov/suicide #SuicidePreventionMonth
