What happens to our children today will impact all of us tomorrow
About us
First 5 LA is an independent public agency with a goal to support the safe and healthy development of young children so that by 2028, all children in L.A. County will enter kindergarten ready to succeed in school and life. First 5 LA was created by voters in 1998 to invest L.A. County’s allocation of funds from California’s voter-approved Proposition 10 tax revenues. First 5 LA recognizes that changing the life trajectory of our youngest children will not be the product of Prop 10 funds alone, which now average $160 per child under the age of 5 in each county. Changing systems and policies to prioritize children at the earliest moments in their lives is what’s required to help all children have the best start possible in life. Creating an integrated and coordinated system of services and supports to strengthen families and improve child outcomes has and will continue to be the focus and value of First 5 LA to our children, families and our state’s future.

Today, First 5 LA, in partnership with the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) and the Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles, hosted Assemblymember Blanca Pacheco (AD-62) at the MAOF Downey Child Care Center. The Assemblywoman got to experience how the center is supporting children and families with a whole-child, whole-family approach to early learning by connecting with students during story-time, sharing a meal, and talking with the dedicated caregivers who nurture the children daily. The visit is one of several visits of MAOF family child care homes across Bell Gardens.
