🌟Chileda had the fantastic opportunity to serve as a vendor and sponsor at the Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Services (WCASS) Fall Conference in Wisconsin Dells, held from October 17-18! This event provided an excellent opportunity to engage with special education leaders and decision-makers from across the state. Our participation reaffirmed our commitment to collaborating with those responsible for special education and student services in Wisconsin school districts. #WCASS #FallConference #ChiledaInstitute

We’re proud to see the incredible impact our interns make! Our former DSP intern reflects on the rewarding experience of working with students, using tech to support communication and independence, and building skills for the future. We're excited to see the positive difference they’ll continue to make! #ChiledaProud #DirectSupport #InnovationInCare
Reflecting on my internship at Chileda this past summer! I had the privilege of working as a Direct Support Professional, where I gained invaluable experience working with individuals with cognitive challenges. My responsibilities included: Engaging students in meaningful activities and promoting independence through individualized schedules. Using a Trauma-Informed Approach to communicate with empathy, even in high-stress situations. Teaching communication skills using tools like sign language, and communication boards. Managing crisis situations with techniques focused on de-escalation and positive behavior support. Student's daily Data entry. Beyond my day-to-day duties, I also explored the intersection of technology and cognitive disabilities which was the main focus of my internship. Chileda utilize technology to enhance the lives of children with cognitive disabilities by supporting communication, behavior management, and learning through various tools and strategies. Systems such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), communication boards, and talker devices to help non-verbal students express themselves across different environments. The use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices helps create accessible environments. This involve adaptive technologies such as automated sensory spaces or controlled environments that respond to students’ needs, fostering comfort and stability. Chileda also emphasizes individual schedules, encouraging students to learn and follow routines independently. Games designed for children are used not only for fun but also to develop motor skills, cognitive abilities, and social interaction. Chileda emphasizes a blend of structured activities and recreation to improve students' life skills and well-being. This combination of technology, structure, and individualized support allows Chileda to help students reach their fullest potential, promoting autonomy and enhancing their quality of life both at school and in community settings From the knowledge and skills I gained and as part of my internship I am currently working on a project to develop an app(using Java and the Codename One framework) that will help caregivers and families better support individuals with cognitive disabilities. Hopefully to be completed by next semester! This journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful for the lessons learned, the skills gained, and the impact I could make. Thank you to my amazing colleagues and the students I had the honor to work with! #internship #directsupport #cognitivedisabilities #technology #caregiving #Java #CodenameOne #learningandgrowing #Chileda
