Knobbe Martens was pleased to sponsor the ChIPs Network Global Summit 2024 – one of the nation’s leading gatherings of women in tech, law and policy – in Washington D.C. last week. Partners Maria V. Stout, Christie Matthaei, and Melanie Seelig attended the conference where Mallun Yen, Founder and CEO of Operator Collective 🔆, interviewed U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson for an enlightening and inspiring conversation. Pictured with Maria, Christie, and Melanie are Alice Garber (Chief Counsel of Contracts and IP) of Blue Origin and Rose James (Global Senior Director of IP) of Expedia Group. We were also delighted to be joined at the conference with Christina MacDonald, (Director, Global Business Solutions and Corporate Compliance Legal) at TikTok, Brigette Chaput and Kristi Spicer (both Senior Corporate Counsel of IP) at Amazon, and Becton Dickenson attorneys Rui Jacques, Ph.D., J.D. (Senior Counsel, IP), Joanne Volosky (Senior Manager, IP), and Jeanne P. Lukasavage (Associate General Counsel, IP). ChIPs Network turns 20 next year! While I am sure the Anniversary Global Summit will be amazing, this year will be hard to beat!!! The Global Summit always offers a room filled with amazing, impressive women that inspire me with their successes and their lessons learned. The program was jam-packed with panels of speakers addressing legal substance and advice about personal and career development. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson spoke and my favorite takeaway is that she sings in her audiobook. Kara Swisher was an incredibly entertaining interview. She spoke a bit about the lost women of tech who have not gotten credit for their contributions. I hope someday she writes a book about that. Congratulations to the whole ChIPs team and our Global Summit committee! Laurie Charrington Vanessa Bailey Natalie Alfaro Gonzales Monica Phillips Joan Toth Virginia (Rollet) Moore. Congratulations also to Katherine Minarik for all your work chairing the ChIPs board! And I loved catching up with old friends and meeting some new ones. At the heart of events like the #ChIPsGlobalSummit lies a powerful truth: they serve as incubators for the future. These gatherings aren’t just about celebrating the achievements of today’s women leaders; they’re about paving the way for those who will follow. We were thrilled to offer our clients more than just a reception. Our special evening at #MeanGirlstheMusical at the National Theatre, complete with a private space at The Henri for conversation and cocktails before the show, provided a unique setting for meaningful interactions and a memorable experience. Additionally, we were proud to sponsor #KaraSwisher's book, #BurnBook, which were donated to the conference attendees. Congratulations to the ChIPs Network for providing fertile ground for networking, mentorship, and collaboration. Until next year, keep sharing, keep connecting, and keep championing #womenleadership in #IntellectualProperty.
