As I waited for the new CIO of one of our major investors to arrive for our first meeting, I started to feel off, not like anything I’ve ever felt before. I took two Advil. I chugged some water. I wolfed down a piece of bread. I shook it off. After he arrived, I managed to fake it for a few minutes before feeling like I might pass out right there in the middle of the restaurant. "I’m sorry. I’m not feeling well," I admitted, excusing myself. Alone, I mentally checked myself: my heart was racing, a feeling of anxiety, a bit disoriented, and I could feel the blood rush through my body up to my neck and head. Aware that women's heart attack symptoms differ from men's, I began Googling. No, not that. Maybe it’s a stroke. More searching. Not those symptoms either. Then it hit me, confirmed by Google: "I’m having my first hot flash!" Initially relieved to have identified it (spoiler alert - a hot flash isn't just suddenly overheating), my next thought was, "I cannot believe women live with these for years. But menopause is actually power. After countless hours of research and interviews, here's my take on why.
