Despite recent progress, only two percent of female founders receive venture capital funding, with only .2 percent going to African American founders. Chloe Capital is on a mission to change that in partnership with foundations, universities and corporate innovators. We travel across the U.S. as part of the #InvestInWomen Tour, moving capital to female founders in each city we visit. This past Friday, SVF kicked off our first-ever Detroit Impact Retreat. Our new class of Investment Associates brought our commitment to community-focused investing to life by spending a day in the Motor City. The trip was filled with education, team-building, and insights from Detroit's venture capital ecosystem leaders. A big thank you to the Urban Tech Xchange for hosting us during the first half of the morning. We had meaningful discussions on the importance of sourcing and screening through an intersectional lens in the VC industry. Our panelists also provided valuable insights on investing in Detroit. We appreciate their time and expertise! At long last, it's time for my Climate Week NYC recap! We connected with Chloe Capital portfolio companies COI Energy, WEST X EAST, itselectric, Dimensional Energy, and accelerator alum CLIP. Aunt Flow was there too! We'd like to thank all of the amazing event hosts Newlab, Civic Hall, SecondMuse, Jobs for the Future (JFF), Nina Sharma, VC Include, Global Women in VC, SJF Ventures, Deloitte, Dentons, Lowenstein Sandler LLP, iConnections, and Energy Impact Partners. It was great to catch up with fellow VCs such as Mirit Lugassi, Momo Bi, Judy Li, Meghan Cross, Taj Ahmad Eldridge, Nneka (Uzoh) Kibuule, along with partners such as ayana Foundation , New York City Economic Development Corporation, NYSERDA, Consulate General of Canada in New York | Consulat général du Canada à New York, and Bank of America. It was also exciting to hear insights from industry leaders such as Vanessa Z Chan. Chloe Operating Partner Jody R. Weiss and I were honored to speak on panels at the Family Offices and Investors Summit and the RegenIntel event where Dr. Lyla June Johnston gave a deeply inspiring performance. Of course we met with numerous entrepreneurs as well including my longtime friends Josh Knauer and Noha Waibsnaider. I also got a chance to work from the rooftop terrace of our new NYC headquarters at Convene on Fifth Ave (last pic). It gives me lots of hope for the future to see so many exciting innovations happening across the climate industry. Having the opportunity to advance some of these leaders through investment is a true honor and a joy!
