The U.S. Coast Guard is critical to implementing the Vessel Incidental Discharge Act (VIDA). By developing compliance and enforcement regulations, they’re taking significant steps to harmonize national discharge requirements. This initiative aligns with Congress' vision for more streamlined and effective environmental protection across our waterways. Until new regulations are in place, vessels still must comply with EPA's 2013 Vessel General Permit and USCG ballast water regulations. #VIDA #CoastGuardCompliance #EnvironmentalRegulations U.S. Coast Guard https://lnkd.in/gb4izzrc

On September 20th, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed the final rule for the Vessel Incidental Discharge Act (VIDA). This rule establishes national standards for incidental discharges from commercial vessels over 79 feet in length into US waters. It includes both general and specific standards for 20 types of discharges, and procedures for states to petition for stricter regulations. The U.S. Coast Guard will develop corresponding compliance and enforcement regulations within two years. Until then, existing requirements remain in effect. CHOICE BALLAST CAN SUPPORT YOUR VESSEL'S COMPLIANCE! Compliance includes several key components: - Installation and operation of the Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) - Crew Training - Ballast Water Management Plan (BWMP) - Documentation for Port State Control (PSC) inspections - BWM reporting - Biofouling maintenance 🔗 www.choiceballast.com #MaritimeCompliance #BWM #ShipOwners #MarineSafety #BallastWaterManagement #UScg #PortStateControl

Congratulations Optimarin AS and #HydeMarine
📣EXCITING NEWS! Optimarin AS has revealed at #SMM2024 that we are upgrading our range of ballast water treatment systems to deliver smarter, greener and more flexible solutions by assimilating advanced technologies gained through the acquisition of Hyde Marine. 🚀 This major expansion and enhancement of Optimarin’s product range was unveiled by our VP Technology Kim Stian Haugland at a seminar being held on both Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hamburg show. It will entail streamlining of the former Hyde Guardian model and rebranding it as Optimarin Guardian, while enhancing our existing Protector BWTS range with advanced UV and filter technologies.🔧 “We are calling this the ‘Optimarinifization’ of the Guardian model that basically means to simplify, modernize, automate and economise the system, while increasing its flexibility,” he explained. 🚢And this will result in Optimarin being able to deliver “an infinite number of models” with flexible solutions tailored to the specific space and other requirements of vessels, Kim Stian told the audience. To find out more, you can check out the second seminar taking place on Wednesday at 14:00 in conference room Shanghai 2+3 between Halls A1 and A4. Meanwhile, EVP Sales & Marketing Tore Andersen said the first day of SMM was a busy one with a steady stream of visitors to the company’s stand. 😄 “We have had some interesting interactions with both suppliers and clients who have expressed an interest in our BWTS technology and how this will be developed in future after the Hyde Marine transaction, which has generated a lot of curiosity in the industry,” he said. And he expects some promising commercial leads to emerge from discussions at its Stand 308 in Hall B7 where another significant event is set to take place today. So watch this space... 👀 Photos: Lasse Buchhop / Business Norway Norwegian Maritime Exporters NME #bwts #CareForOurOceans #SustainableShipping #teamnorway
