  • We'd like to thank The Beacon for highlighting CAM in an article they did most recently! For those who may not know, The Beacon is a local nonprofit online Christian news platform that reports on God's activity across the San Antonio area. They so graciously reached out to us asking if they could do an article about CAM, our services, the impact we're making in this community and so much more. We're incredibly grateful they reached out to us as we're honored to be featured on their online platform. The visibility this will give us is huge - we're blessed to have people sharing the mission of what we do. Texans Mean Business | Profit with integrity → Groundwork Camp

Texans Mean Business is purposefully built around community impact. For the lifetime of the business, 10% of profits will be donated to Texas-based nonprofits that directly serve their local communities. Each year, a set of organizations that address complementary causes and are located across different parts of the state will be chosen. Because Groundwork Camp just launched, gifts will be made in March and again in September 2025, coinciding with the Big Give. The initial organizations the business will be supporting through FY2025 are: Hill Country Family Services (Kendall County) Christian Assistance Ministry (San Antonio) Good Neighbor Settlement House (Brownsville) All three have long histories of good governance and being the “front line” in their communities. Among them, they directly help people in acute need with food, clothing, shelter, showers, laundry, mail services, ID recovery, emergency bills, and other critical services without discrimination. They also connect those in continued need to organizations that can help with longer-term, more specialized care. Policy and civic engagement are important — that’s why I proudly serve on the Board of the Better Futures Institute and the Community Experience Committee at San Antonio Water System — but equally crucial is meeting people where they’re at and providing some respite. Please consider supporting these organizations or others located within your own community. The needs-based, pro-bono coaching spots for woman-owned businesses and rural/small-town operators throughout the state are already full! New spaces will open in March 2025 after this cohort finishes. From day one, part of my plan has also been to launch more accessible and affordable options for Groundwork Camp that are widely available across Texas. I’m excited to have this in motion and to share more on those initiatives soon! Profit is not inherently evil or harmful, but a profit-at-all-costs attitude can cloud perspective. Giving consistently, generously, and joyously becomes a source of protection for your mind and soul. Having a profitable company with integrity allows you to do good business. Let’s pay our gifts forward, whether financial, time, an empathetic ear, a glass of water, or whatever else might be within our capacity to help another out. Neighboring is the truly Texan thing to do. 🤠

  • CAM is incredibly grateful to the Wade Richmond Foundation for allowing us to participate in their Annual Matching Grant Challenge. If we can raise $100,000 during the month of August, the Wade Richmond Foundation will match that and give CAM an additional $100,000! These dollars will go directly to serving those experiencing hardships or facing a crisis situation. What does this mean for you? It means that, while CAM still needs consistent monetary donations from our amazing donors throughout the year, we hope that you will donate during the month of August too. Jack and Laura Richmond created this foundation and left a legacy of love and support throughout the community during their lifetime and beyond. "We should love each other - that means caring for our neighbors. Where those in mourning are comforted, where the hungry are fed, where the poor hear good news. Our foundation strives to give energy to those angels among us who are actively caring for such neighbors." - Jack & Laura Richmond Mark your calendars for August 1st and consider helping CAM reach $100,000! You can donate online at cam-sa.org/donate.

  • Recently at Haven For Hope, where our team from CAM helps clients with recovering ID documents, a client arrived who had lived in San Antonio for some time but was originally from Louisiana. She needed help with getting a Texas ID. She had asked a friend to mail her some of her needed documents - many were water damaged from days of living outside, but had been faithfully saved. She had everything she needed to go to the department of public safety except her social security card. When advised of this missing item she burst into tears of frustration. Our new volunteer, Annie. helped her to take a few minutes to calm herself and reminded her she was so close to having everything and "that it was just one more step." David, our long-time volunteer excused himself kindly from the client he was working with to come over to offer her reassurance and an easy tip about how to obtain a medical record next door at the Haven Medical clinic, explaining that a medical record will help with getting her social security card adding there was no charge to get a replacement social security card. He repeated the reassurance and sat with her as she regained her strength and looked at the map our CAM team has for walking to the local social security office. We think so much of what this team is providing is encouragement to stay the course and keep working on what are truly hurdles for those living in a shelter. It's confusing, it's complicated and it's frustrating when it takes so many steps to get a new Texas ID or replace a lost or expired one. Seeing this team in action, working one on one, figuring out hard problems together, and helping to pay for much needed documents should make all of us feel hopeful! CAM is part of the good things happening at Haven For Hope. #camsa #havenforhope #teamwork #idrecovery #campassion #nonprofit #community #encouragement #hope #staythecourse #whatlovedoes

  • Those familiar with CAM know that we have an awesome shower program for our unsheltered homeless friends! Our shower program works like clock work and runs so smoothly. During these summer months, those experiencing homelessness sure do appreciate a shower, which they can receive every day at CAM! Did you know when someone takes a shower at CAM they can receive a full hygiene kit filled with things like deodorant, a brush, a razor and shaving cream, lip balm, new socks and underwear and much more! However, we've run into a snafu - our shower program is in need of a few things: * Hand wash basin stand with rolling wheels * Travel sized deodorant * Socks for men and women * Men's and women's underwear (new) * Shaving cream * Razors * Combs * Brushes * Lip balm * Face towels * Shower curtains Consider gathering your friends, family members, church groups, coworkers, school-mates, etc. and consider collecting some of these items for CAM's shower program! For more questions on how to donate, contact Sarah at skory@cam-sa.org today. #showerprogram #camsa #homeless #clients #campassion #donate #help #community

  • Such a great and simple way to help our houseless friends and honor the legacy of Billy Mahone III, a dear friend to CAM.

Real and lasting change doesn’t happen overnight. Our dear friend and co-worker, Billy Mahone III, paved the way when he came up with an idea to fill plastic baggies with essential items and a resource card to hand to our unhoused neighbors, now known as Billy Bundles. No one was a stranger to Billy. Daily collaboration within the homeless response system not only works to ensure everyone has a place to call home but also intentionally fosters a fully inclusive process recognizing the dignity and value of every human being. Everyone has a story. Join this movement and shine a light on an unhoused neighbor today. What's in your “Billy Bundle”? Share on social using the hashtag #BillyBundles and tag @closetohomesa. #CloseToHomeSA #AllianceToHouseEveryone #community #allinforbilly #homelessnessawareness #homelessresponsesystem #homelessresponsesa #unhousedneighborsstillourneighbors #sanantonio #bexarcounty #endhomelessness #makingmybillybundle

  • At CAM, we've been serving the community for 45 years, so helping others and filling in those gaps comes second nature to us. But for someone who doesn't know who we are, it's our job to educate! That said, here is some foundational information about CAM: • CAM was established back in 1977 by 9 downtown churches • CAM serves over 70,000 people annually • CAM serves 2 types of populations: lower income individuals and families with a place of residence, and those that are homeless • No one needs to make an appointment to see us • People who come to CAM don't have to pay for anything, every donation we receive is handed to someone who needs it at no cost #camsa #whoarewe #nonprofit #community #campassion #everyoneiswelcome

  • We're super proud because CAM earned a Platinum Seal of Transparency on GuideStar, which is the highest level of recognition offered by GuideStar! We wanted to highlight this achievement with all of you because we know as donors and supporters you're our biggest cheerleaders! This is also an important achievement to share with our funders as it illustrates CAM's transparency when it comes to our funding streams. Wahoo we're so stoked! #transparency #guidestar #camsa #nonpofit #certified #achievement #platinumseal

  • CAM has always recognized that access to basic needs such as showers, restrooms, and water are vital resources that must be provided (especially to those experiencing chronic homelessness and living on the streets). For years, we have provided these things including many water hoses on campus that clients use to get cool, fill water bottles, clean up and even clean clothes. However, these were all within our gates and we worried about how to make that available during non-working hours in the evenings and some part of the weekend. We are thrilled to announce that with a private donor, much work to meet city guidelines, and a specialized design, we have created space on our campus that is available 24/7 that has a water fountain with a hose to fill water bottles, a place to drink from and a doggy water bowl (many of those we serve have pets). As you can imagine, in a city with the kind of heat we have, this is such a blessing and we are thrilled to have made this a reality! It has taken us about a year to do so, but it’s so exciting to see how well used and needed it is and that we were able to make it happen thanks to this amazing donor! And here we have one of our sweet clients, Nick, who was thrilled to pose next to one of his favorite things at CAM…the new water fountain! #whatlovedoes #water #basicneeds #access #community #houseless #homeless #nonprofit See insights and ads Boost Comment
