Wow! Wow! Wow! the second National CHW Awareness Week has been such a celebration! Across the country in so many communities, people took the time to thank local CHWs, organizations and networks highlighted the CHWs in their communities, state and local officials declared the week, and even celebrities got in on the fun! At the national level, a resolution was introduced in congress to commemorate #NCHWAW. We are so thrilled to see all that has come to fruition this week, and hope that this momentum does not stop. Keep celebrating CHWs and keep advocating for CHWs. Let's all work to respect, protect, and partner with CHWs, because they are the workforce we need, for the world we want. #ValueCHWs #NCHWAW2024

Last month, Senator Bob Casey, Jr. and Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. introduced a resolution formally recognizing the week of August 26-30, 2024, as the second annual National Community Health Worker Awareness Week. This resolution (S.Res. 771 / H.Res. 1389), co-sponsored by Representative Jennifer McClellan and Senators Richard Blumenthal, Sherrod Brown, Kirsten Gillibrand, Mazie Hirono, and Alex Padilla, acknowledges the essential role community health workers (CHWs) play in promoting public health and advancing health equity. “Community health workers play a crucial role in our healthcare system, connecting individuals with essential services and support right in their neighborhoods. Their commitment to addressing local health needs is fundamental to building stronger, healthier communities,” said Congressman Raul Ruiz MD (CA-25). “That is why I introduced a resolution to commemorate National Community Health Worker Awareness Week to be celebrated from August 26-30, 2024.” Read the full release here: https://buff.ly/4dDbq6v #NCHWAW #NCHWAW2024

“There are over six decades of evidence of community health worker effectiveness across a variety of different topic areas… we know that these programs are effective not only because patients and clients in these programs say so, but because increasingly, local, state health departments, hospitals and health plans, and even the federal government is investing in CHW integration, employment and workforce development” NACHW founding executive director Denise Octavia Smith, sharing the value of CHWs, and an invitation for all to join in celebrating National CHW Awareness Week. #NCHWAW #NCHWAW2024 #ValueCHWs Denise Octavia Smith MBA, BS, CHW, PN, SFC
