With the political party conventions concluding last week, we took a closer look at voter enthusiasm* as we approach November's election. Our August survey shows that the new Harris/Walz ticket has boosted overall voter enthusiasm, particularly among women, who are 6% more likely than men to express heightened enthusiasm. We did not see similar increases in voter enthusiasm following recent changes to the Republican ticket, including the assassination attempt on former President Trump and the selection of Vance as VP. We also examined the impact of women on the ballot and found that women are more likely than men to support other women in down-ballot races. Stay updated as we continue to monitor voter enthusiasm and other key democracy issues in our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/ejpySe2k *Voter enthusiasm was measured by the increased likelihood of voting in November due to various recent events.

Former President Trump’s false claims this week of AI-generated crowds from a Harris/Walz rally further highlight the dual threat of AI in our elections: not only can AI be used to easily manipulate real content, but falsely claiming content was AI-generated can in and of itself cast doubt in our elections and mislead voters. So to what extent do Americans trust information from AI? Our findings show that Democrats and Democrat-leaning Independents are 9% more trusting of information from AI chatbots (44% trust) than Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents (35% trust). Independents are the least trusting, with over 1 in 3 completely distrusting information from AI chatbots. This is potentially worrisome given recent reports of false voting locations appearing in AI chatbot responses.   Follow along as we continue to track Americans’ attitudes around AI in our elections and other key democracy issues in our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/ejpySe2k

Last week, Citizen team members Mindy Finn, Melanie Phillips, PhD, and Nicole Taylor had the privilege of attending and moderating discussions with a diverse group of women leaders at the National Conference of State Legislatures summit. During the roundtable discussions, we heard some extremely powerful stories about the challenges these female leaders faced getting elected to state legislatures across the country, how they overcame those challenges, and the lessons they learned with the hope that they benefit others charting a similar path. As a female-led organization, Citizen Data is committed to working with our partners to better understand the barriers women face running for and maintaining elected office, and developing actionable solutions to help break those barriers for the next generation of women leaders.

In recognition of National Poll Worker Recruitment Day today, we wanted to take a closer look at how Americans view those who work our elections. Our recent survey data show that election workers (including poll workers) are highly trusted among voters and that confidence has recently been increasing (+6% since November 2023). Perhaps most importantly, in our survey of election workers around the country, a vast majority (83%) are confident in their jurisdictions’ abilities to handle the 2024 elections without any significant issues. Check out more information below for how to sign up to be a poll worker in your community. https://lnkd.in/g-PZrfK

How likely are individuals in your county to accept political violence? Check out our new data below ⬇ We shared last week that while a vast majority of Americans reject various forms of political violence, a small but not insignificant number of individuals (7% on average) find physical violence against elected officials acceptable, especially among younger generations. So, we decided to take a closer look. Through our predictive modeling, we're able to better understand exactly where there is an increased risk of violence when individuals don’t trust election results. While we’ll continue to analyze this data over the coming weeks, we generally see an increased risk in southern states, notably Georgia--a key battleground state--where political violence acceptance across counties is significantly higher than average.
