Updates

  • Brace yourselves for Back to School TRAFFIC! Starting Monday, August 26, University of Hawaiʻi campuses will start up the Fall 2024 semester! Thousands of students will be back on the roadways and sidewalks to attend their classes.   Don’t like traffic? Give public transit a try! Why focus on driving in traffic when you can chill, read, sleep, or do your last minute homework/papers while on #TheBus or #SkylineHNL? Public transit reduces the amount of cars on the roadways. Why put 40 cars on the road, when you can fit 40 people on a bus? Leeward Community College and UH West Oʻahu have their own Skyline stations for students attending these respective campuses. UH Mānoa students can also take the Route A Bus, that arrives at Hālawa Aloha Stadium Skyline station every 10 minutes!   UPASS for University students, and Youth discounted HOLO cards for students 17 and younger are available as affordable transportation options.   Park-and-Ride lots are available to all public transit users at UH West Oʻahu, Hoʻopili and Hālawa stations! Just park your car and jump on a train or bus!   Live in town? Try a #Biki to get to work or class and don’t worry about locking up your own personal bike! With Biki stations throughout the urban core of Honolulu, Chinatown, UH Mānoa, Waikīkī and McCully, and dedicated bike lanes along King, South, Alakea, Pensacola Streets and Ward Avenue, biking has never been easier.   Or simply walk! Oʻahu has the best weather! Walking is healthy, free, and easy. Why not?   Like driving still? Make sure you carpool with friends or family as a good opportunity for bonding and conversation. This also helps reduce the amount of cars on the roadways and helps keep you from losing your mind while sitting in traffic. Most importantly, HOLO with #Aloha. Remove all distractions when driving/walking/biking to ensure that everyone gets to their destinations safely, and on time. Pay attention, look ALL ways, and throw shakas.   #HOLOWithUs

  • Reminder: August is still #Pedestrian Safety Month! Keep your eyes peeled and your attention focused for pedestrians AND our furry family members! There are lot of families walking their pets, especially during rush hour, so give them the attention and time they need to cross so everyone can make it back home safely. Look at these pups. You can't say "no" to these pups. Travel with #aloha #HOLOWithUs

  • DTS is encouraging Oʻahu residents — and especially public, private and college-aged students — to embrace different ways to get around the island this year, especially as the new school year begins. As students head back to public, private and charter schools, as well as to college and university campuses, traffic congestion will increase on our roads. DTS is asking the public to plan their trips in advance, ensuring adequate time to travel safely on the road. There are many ways to get travel all over the island of Oʻahu: Skyline: Honolulu’s newest mode of transportation, Skyline offers convenient, comfortable, and reliable rides with expansive views of the south shore of Oʻahu between East Kapolei and Hālawa. With stations at University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu and Leeward Community College, DTS encourages students, faculty, and staff to ride Skyline, bypassing ground level traffic with trains running every 10 minutes. Riders bound for University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa can connect to Route A at the Hālawa Aloha Stadium Station. Route A buses arrive every 10 minutes. Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam employees who live near the Skyline route can connect directly to TheBus Route PH8 at Hālawa station for direct access onto the base. TheBus: TheBus offers over 100 routes on Oʻahu and is an efficient way to access school and work. With routes serving most public and private schools, plus all University of Hawaiʻi and other college campuses, along with major employment centers, TheBus is a great way to get around without driving. Carpool: Carpooling reduces the number of vehicles on the roadways, and can be a good opportunity for bonding and conversation. Biki: DTS took over Biki operations at the beginning of July, and the bikeshare network is another mode of transportation added to our multimodal offerings. Biki provides affordable rates for students and employees around urban Honolulu. For more information, visit: www.gobiki.org HOLO cards are used for payment on TheBus and Skyline and are available for purchase at select retail locations, most Satellite City Halls, online and at TheBus Pass Office at the Kalihi Transit Center on Middle Street. HOLO cards can be registered to an individual or families to manage, come with transfer periods and fare capping, and can hold daily or monthly passes. For more information, go to www.holocard.net DTS wants to remind all users of the roadways to practice patience, time management, and to travel with aloha. #HOLOWithUs #SkylineHNL #RideTheSky

  • DID YOU KNOW? Bicycles are allowed on all of our #SkylineHNL trains? Bikes provide a way to get that first or last mile to or from Skyline. E-Bikes are also a popular device used by many Skyline riders..... just be careful when riding! There are bike racks located inside the train, so you can relax while you ride, without worrying. Skyline trains are wide enough so you can even hold your bike, luggage, or whatever else you want to bring onboard! #HOLOWithUs

  • Back to school means more cars on the roadways! Be sure you are getting your keiki to school safely and on-time! No rush! You can risk the safety of not only yourself and your child, but other families and loved ones when operating a motor vehicle! Parents, please educate your keiki on these tips for walking and biking to school. Let's do our part to save lives, and keep our communities safe. #HOLOWithUs

  • As we head into a new school year, the Hawaiʻi Department of Education (DOE) has announced that eligible high school bus riders on Oʻahu impacted by temporarily suspended school bus routes will be offered HOLO cards to ride the City’s TheBus system at no cost to parents. For more information, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gfVrTAFY. TheBus and Skyline are options for all other students who want to utilize public transportation to get to school or work. Youth HOLO cards are available for all students at a discounted rate compared to Adult HOLO cards. Youth passes are considered for persons 6 - 17 years of age. They also include high school students up to 19 years of age who have a valid high school identification card or proof of enrollment. Youth HOLO cards are available at Satellite City Halls (except Ala Moana Center location), at the Transit Pass Office in Kalihi, or online at www.thebus.org. HOLO cards work for both TheBus and Skyline. As the new school year approaches, DTS is reminding the public to travel safely, with caution, patience, and aloha. #HOLOWithUs
