Before demolition, this home appeared to be in good condition, but its long history included a fire and a flood. The new homeowners are now preparing to build a new home, which will offer several benefits. One key advantage is the safety and structural integrity that this new build will provide compared to the previous home. Additionally, the new home will offer energy efficiency benefits, reducing utility costs and environmental impact. It will also require significantly less maintenance. Another advantage of demolishing an old home to build a new one is the opportunity to recycle materials from the old home, reducing waste and environmental impacts.

I have a large appreciation for the world we live in and understand the importance that trees have on our environment but this new tree ordinance in Edina has gone too far. After hearing many of the negative ramifications that the tree ordinance is having on our local residents, I am hopeful that there will be meaningful changes made.
A local housing policy issue in Edina is costing homeowners tens of thousands and is attracting industry engagement. Last night, Housing First Minnesota's Mark Foster and industry leaders Rebecca Remick w City Homes Todd Simning w ADOR HOMES and Nate Wissink w Streeter Custom Builder, along with several of their homebuyers, were present to address the City Council and bring awareness to the incredible cost impacts of Edina’s tree ordinance on new home projects. Some of the buyers shared that the tree replacement fees required by the policy alone can cost up to $75,000-$100,000 per lot - this severely and unnecessarily limits homeownership access. These policies are well-intentioned, but the practical implications and exorbitant costs make them untenable and serve as another roadblock to housing affordability and choices. It's great to see industry engagement on local issues like this to adjust approaches that better balance resource protection and costs. #housing #homebuilding #homeconstruction #homeownership
