Congratulations to Fire Chief Jay Hagen, who heads to the City of Kalispell next month. Jay has done a terrific job leading our fire department since 2018. “I am so proud of the team at Bellevue Fire and what we were able to accomplish together," Jay said. City Manager Diane Carlson was pleased to be able to appoint Deputy Chief Dave Tait to be interim chief after Jay leaves. Dave has been with the department for 28 years, moving up through the ranks from firefighter to paramedic to lieutenant, captain and battalion chief before becoming deputy chief in 2023.

High-tech hub and "city in a park"
About us
Bellevue is the fifth largest city in Washington, with a population of more than 150,000. It is the high-tech and retail center of the Eastside, with more than 150,000 jobs around the city and a skyline of gleaming high-rises. You can learn a lot about the city from news releases, the It's Your City newsletter and Bellevue Television. While business booms downtown, much of Bellevue retains a small-town feel, with thriving, woodsy neighborhoods and a vast network of green spaces and recreational facilities that keep people calling the place "a city in a park." The city's schools are consistently rated among the best in the country. Sales at local shopping complexes are always an attraction, and arts and crafts fairs one weekend in July draw thousands each year. During the holiday season, the Garden d'Lights display at the Bellevue Botanical Garden attracts visitors from far and wide. Artists from around the country enter striking new works in the annual Bellwether arts fair. The city spans more than 31 square miles between Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish, and is a short drive from the Cascade Mountains. People can kayak within sight of downtown in the Mercer Slough Nature Park, a 320-acre wetland preserve.

Naren so capably represents the quality of the community members who participate in Bellevue Essentials!
What am I supposed to do with my Wednesday nights now? Bellevue Essentials is officially over. It was an honor to represent my cohort as the class speaker. My class surprised me at the end with the perfect gift. A signed book on the first 100 years of Bellevue. 🥹🥰 Julie, Mark, Sarina and all city staff are to thank here for their incredible dedication. It was an exciting night with words from the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and city Manager. Alongside David Bowling. Here’s to Bellevue’s future!
