It may look like playtime, but really our employees were learning infant CPR. This class was one of a series of CPR training sessions offered to City employees to learn CPR, proper use of an AED (automated external defibrillator), and other essential life-saving techniques that can help adults, children and infants when seconds matter. It’s all part of the City’s commitment to safety and well-being in the workplace.

It’s a family affair for the Thomas and Scrivner families who work in the Solid Waste and Recycling Division! In celebration of Father’s Day and Waste Management Workers’ Week, we honor them and the dozens of other workers who keep our city clean and looking good.

On Wednesday, the City of Bowie celebrated staff members participating in the “Walk This Way” challenge. The 29 teams that participated walked 72,238,780 steps over eight weeks. Congratulations to the winning teams...Power House, Denise Forced Us, and City Walkers!

Congratulations to Sonia Srivastava (from our Communications Division) on her recent graduation from the Bowie Police Department’s Citizens Academy! Her family joined her to celebrate the occasion.

Communications and Information Technology team members attended the annual Adobe Government Forum in Washington, DC. During the event, they met with Adobe staff members and sat in on discussions on industry-related best practices.

Congratulations to Bowie Police Department's Corporal Janet Dollard, who received this year’s Police Federal Credit Union Community Service Officer of the Year Award! Janet is a member of the Police Department's Community Services Division and leads the Police Explorers Program.

City of Bowie Sustainability Manager Ashleigh Diaz presented on composting and food waste during the Green Hat Summit hosted by Prince George’s County Council Member Ingrid Watson. During her presentation, Ashleigh discussed the definition of composting, how to turn food and yard waste into compost, and what items are compostable. The City’s Curbside Food Waste program has nearly 300 participants with over 100 people on the waitlist for expansion. The program will cover new neighborhoods beginning in FY26. City of Bowie staff kicked off this year's "Walk This Way" challenge on National Walking Day (4/8) with stretching and a tire flip.    Nearly 30 teams are participating and team names include Scrambled Leggs, The DeFEETers, and the Rock N' Strollers.

Did you know? Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US according to the American Heart Association. City of Bowie employees are commemorating American Heart Month by wearing red on Fridays and participating in group and individual activities like taking outdoor walks and making small daily changes to impact their health.
