Coming out and sharing your authentic self is a big decision. Doing it alone is even harder. That's why our Civil and Human Rights Department's LGBTQ Advisory Council hosts an annual event for National Coming Out Day - so people can feel the support they have in their community and the allies that are all around them. It's heartwarming to see how strong our community is together.

Closing the loop. Many times Des Moines Fire Department teams never get to hear the outcome of their calls. Yesterday, four of our first responders got the chance to meet Naomi Hubbard who they treated and transported a little over a year ago. She thanked them and credited them with saving her life for going the extra mile to thoroughly assess her symptoms and vitals and get her to the appropriate level of treatment which was crucial when she suffered a heart attack later that night and ended up with a double bypass heart surgery. Our team was touched to meet Naomi and hear her story - this is why we are so passionate about our jobs. Thanks for stopping by, Naomi, and thanks to these dedicated firefighters who make a difference on every call they respond to. Pictured: Lt. Noftsger, FF Matias, FF Long and FF Sullivan. On the call but not pictured: Captain Van Haalen and FM Schneider
