    The City of Hurst, Texas is looking for our next Executive Director of Public Works. The city is seeking a strong, solutions-oriented executive leader with the ability to motivate and connect with staff and successfully achieve organizational outcomes. The new Director will manage a department comprised of approximately 45 full-time employees under the following divisions: Public Works: Engineering, Environmental Services, Streets, Traffic, Storm Drainage, Water, and Wastewater Utilities, along with an approved FY25 operating budget of $26.6 million along with significant capital projects including the construction of new water tower, implementation of a smart meter program, and major road projects.  Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to create innovative solutions to maintaining infrastructure in a built-out community focusing on redevelopment.     Check out the new Rickel Park Playground in Hurst! Thank you to our incredible Parks and Recreation staff for making this possible!

    The City of Hurst recently celebrated the opening of Rickel Park Playground, that features an eye-catching tower playground with two shaded tower sections, slides, climbers, and play panels. It not only provides a unique play experience but also serves as a striking focal point that the community can come together to enjoy. The playground also features a play structure for kids aged 2-5 years old that offers more slides, panels, climbers, and talk tubes for endless fun. The shaded 2-bay swing set includes a see me swing, a face-to-face style swing that encourages interactive play between parents and children. Congratulations to the community of Hurst, TX on this exciting new addition to Rickel Park!

    The City of Hurst Marketing and Communication Division was recently awarded 5 state awards through the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) and presented them during last night's city council meeting. The TAMIO Awards is the leading recognition program in Texas, honoring excellence for municipal communication strategies. TAMIO includes communication professionals representing municipal, county, and other related agencies and organizations. 🏆 First Place for Best Small Shop. This award recognizes the best communication department in Texas operating with two or fewer team members. 🏆 First Place for Best Marketing Plan/Campaign. This award recognizes our water utilities recruitment campaign, which contributed to filling the 11 vacant positions in our Water Utilities Division from July 2023 to October 2023. 🏆 Second Place for Best Strategic Plan. This award recognizes the division's Strategic Communication Plan, developed following a recent communication audit, and the goals accomplished so far within the plan. 🏆 Second Place for Internal Communication. This award recognizes the Hurst Way Advocacy Team roadshow, which helped recruit volunteers and promote the Hurst Way culture, employee recognition, and leadership development opportunities. 🏆 Third Place for Best Social Media Campaign (Planned). This award recognizes the Parks and Recreation's social media campaign that helped recruit more aquatics staff for the 2024 aquatics season.     Last week, the City of Hurst’s Communication Coordinator, Sarah Phipps, and Police Captain Mark Bruner attended the Executive Public Information Officer (PIO) course with the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA). During this course, they learned all about executive communications, crisis planning, and being purposeful about the brand and image of an agency. We are so proud of our team members for investing in continuing education that will benefit our community and organization!
