Congratulations to City Manager Ryan Waller on his recent graduation from the 2023-2024 Leadership Iowa program. He was one of 40 Iowa leaders selected to participate in this issues-awareness program offered through the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation. A formal graduation ceremony took place earlier this month during the 2024 ABI Taking Care of Business Conference in Davenport. Through his participation, he was able to represent Marion and forge connections with members of the business community throughout the state. Each session provided a first-hand look at essential topics related to Iowa and included discussions with subject-matter experts, interactive experiences, industry tours and more. Congratulations, Ryan – thanks for making Marion part of the conversation! #MarionReachHigher

The City of Marion extends a heartfelt note of thanks to Uptown Marion Main Street Director Brooke Prouty as she transitions to a new role as a business specialist with Main Street Iowa. Since 2017, we’ve been fortunate to have Brooke leading the Uptown Marion District. She was a critical partner and important liaison to the business community during the Uptown streetscape project. In addition, she played a major role in derecho recovery and helped launch the military tribute banner program for Marion. Thank you for seven great years as a valued economic development partner and ambassador for all things Marion, Brooke. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors! #MarionReachHigher

This week, Marion representatives made their way to Washington, D.C., to lobby for federal grant funding on behalf of the cities of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Robins and Marion. Mayor Nick AbouAssaly was joined by Marion’s Deputy City Manager Kim Downs and Public Services and Utilities Director Mike Barkalow along with representatives of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and other cities throughout the region. The Marion delegation was seeking support for the remaining segments of Tower Terrace Road to be built between Interstate 380 and Highway 13 and rally support for the region’s 2024 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant request as well as the 2024 Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant (MPDG) application. The total remaining project cost is $56 million. When finished, the road will span 8.3 miles through the Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Robins, unincorporated Linn County and Marion corridor, providing a safe, reliable and contiguous route from Interstate 380 to Highway 13. #MarionReachHigher
