  • At the City of Miramar Commission meeting held on 10/17/2024, the following Proclamations and Presentations were made: 1. As Vice Mayor Davis transitions to her new role as Broward County Commissioner Elect for District 7, we thank her for her dedication and impact on our community. Her leadership and advocacy have made a positive difference on Miramar. Mayor Wayne Messam Presented the Proclamation, which was followed by a standing ovation. 2. We honored the Miramar-Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce for their contributions to our community. The Chamber has been a vital partner in fostering economic growth and promoting local businesses. We thank them for their dedication and commitment. Mayor Messam declared the day as Chambers Day! Vice Mayor Davis presented the proclamation to the @miramarpembrokepineschamber

    Presented by Commissioner Yvette Colbourne, the City of Miramar has partnered with UNCF to offer three scholarships, each valued at $5,000 to City of Miramar students. Deadline to Apply: October 31, 2024 Finalists will be announced in February 2025. Applicants must meet the following selection criteria: • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale • Completed FAFSA form • Demonstrated unmet financial need • Resident of the City of Miramar, Florida • Must attend an eligible school such as Somerset Academy, Everglades High School, or Miramar High School, and be accepted to a UNCF member institution or other accredited four-year college or university. To promote the importance of urban planning and its role in shaping our community, Mayor Wayne M. Messam proclaimed October as Community Planning Month in Miramar 4. To emphasize the significance of inclusivity in the workplace, Mayor Wayne M. Messam proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Miramar, with Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis presenting the proclamation. 5. To highlight the importance of fire safety and prevention, Mayor Wayne M. Messam proclaimed October 6-12 as Fire Prevention Week in Miramar 6. To celebrate the role of arts and culture in the community, Mayor Wayne M. Messam proclaimed October as Artober/Art and Humanities Month in Miramar 7. Cultural Affairs Director Camasha Cevieux and Broward County Cultural Division Director Phillip Dunlap gave a special presentation celebrating Arts and Humanities Month as well as recognizing the Miramar Cultural Centers 16 year anniversary. 8. Teen Council Advisory Board Members presented a special recognition to Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis in appreciation of her leadership and support. 9. Members of the Honeyshine Program presented Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis with a special acknowledgment for her commitment to youth mentorship and empowerment.
