The Odessa Chamber of Commerce hosted a welcome reception to celebrate the 47th class of Leadership Odessa. It provided an opportunity for leadership participants to network and meet one another before the annual retreat. The incoming class has a total of 51 participants from all segments of Odessa's businesses and non-profit organizations who were selected to be part of this long-standing program. The leadership participants make an eight-month commitment to develop their leadership skills and learn about the community firsthand through monthly sessions. This program is one of the longest-running in the state, with more than 1,550 graduates having completed the course since its inception in the late 1970s. Congratulations to those who were selected for this year's class! ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud #chamber Odessa Chamber of Commerce

A Legacy in Soccer Antero "Terry" Perez is a passionate soccer enthusiast. His love for the sport led him to start as a volunteer coach at the Odessa Soccer Association in 1980. Initially, he helped out on weekends at Sherwood Park where his son played in a children's league. Ten years later, Terry’s children began playing for local clubs. By that time, he was already dreaming of forming his own league. It took another decade before the "Statik" league was founded in early 2000. The journey wasn't easy. Terry decided to purchase his own land to keep growing his league. With the help of his wife, they expanded to include teams for women, children and men. Today the league boasts one indoor field and two outdoor fields, offering hundreds of families a chance to play soccer during the summer. Terry proudly shares how the league helps people forget their problems and enjoy the sport they love. He’s also proud to see not only his children but also his grandchildren participating in the league. Alongside his soccer legacy, he manages his own business, an air conditioning installation and maintenance business. His message is simple: unite your family in a common goal and you will see positive results. Statik Soccer League Statik Heating & Cooling (432)553-4024 ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud

National Night Out Odessans of all ages gathered across the city for National Night Out. The Odessa Police Department hosted this event to enhance relationships and increase awareness of crime and drug prevention. OPD personnel were able to build relationships with neighbors while fostering a true sense of community. It provided a great opportunity to bring police and citizens together under positive circumstances. Plus, it allows children and their families to get to know the officers and ask questions. The state of Texas and select areas celebrate this event on the first Tuesday in October. Thank you to the Odessa Police Department for your continued service to our community! ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud

Serving the Community in Health Scotty Ortega has set up shop in West Texas. He tells us Odessa feels like home. After studying medicine, he worked at Odessa Regional Medical Center, where his passion for caring for patients inspired him to open his own practice. In 2014, he opened his first office. He tells us that taking that leap of faith wasn’t easy, but with his wife, Laura, by his side, the pair remained committed to their dreams. “The early days were challenging; it wasn’t easy to establish a patient base and make a name for myself,” Scotty shared. Scotty and Laura kept working to build a team that would help along the way. Now, they operate three clinics, supported by a talented staff, serving West Texans. “I believe that medicine is built on trust between a doctor and their patients. I work to educate young people to pursue medical careers here in the Permian Basin,” Scotty said. Dr. Scotty Ortega, MD West Texas Medical Care 3001 Faudree Road 980 E. 87th St., Ste. Celebrating Six Years of Brunch and Family at Brunch and Munch   Melissa Burns is a born-and-raised Odessan but spent the early part of her adult life in Dallas with her husband Dustin. She tells us that in 2010, she and her husband moved back to the Basin since their families were still here. However, there was one thing about Dallas she couldn’t get off her mind.   “When we moved back, I kept telling my husband, ‘I miss brunch so much.’ You know, we had so many great spots there, and here there were good breakfast places, but not really any true brunch places,” Melissa shared.   She tells us her husband, Dustin and her mom Lucy encouraged her to open her own business, something she didn’t take seriously at first, but six years ago, that idea started to take shape. In 2018, with both of their help what began as a dream became a reality and Brunch and Munch was born.   “We were nervous at first because everyone kept telling us, ‘Odessa doesn’t do brunch, they don’t like it,’ and I just couldn’t believe that. Everyone loves brunch—why wouldn’t they? But we’ve been very blessed, our community has embraced us and been so kind and supportive since opening,” Melissa said.   That support took Brunch and Munch to another level. Melissa tells us the restaurant is a family run business. Her mom Lucy is the head and heart of her kitchen, and Dustin recently left his career to help Melissa run the business full time.   “Even if it isn’t blood family, our employees have become like family over the past 6 years, most of them still come see us pretty regularly and we love catching up with them. Our son, who’s in high school, helps us on the weekends and our 4th grade daughter even loves helping up front any chance she gets. It’s just been a blessing for our family,” Melissa shared.   October will mark six years since the Burns family opened their doors to bring the brunch experience to Odessans. Melissa tells us that they source as much food as they can locally, so during the coming fall months, you can expect to see pumpkin caramel beignets, fall-flavored coffees, spiced cocktails and mocktails and a few returning guest favorite dishes!   Brunch and Munch Eatery and Creperie   📍818 N County Road W   📱(432) 552-8777
