Taste the Tradition Hector Arreola became an entrepreneur at just 18 years old with the support of his sister, Nereida, and his mother. Together, they launched a new business focused on delicious Mexican cuisine. After finishing high school, Hector expressed his desire to start a business to his family and they immediately supported him. That’s how "El Junior's Taqueria" began! Now, his days are long and challenging but he has the drive to succeed. From 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, he serves his customers. His menu mainly consists of breakfast and lunch burritos, catering to employees from nearby companies who line up to enjoy his flavorful cooking! El Junior's Taqueria Food Truck 📍 915 S. A Fryer’s Promise: Turning Dreams into Reality It’s never too late for a dream to come true. That is what a donut fryer taught Alma and Manuel Ramirez. These two married young and didn’t have a lot to their name. Manuel came home one day ecstatic to show his wife the donut fryer he got. That day he told her he would own a bakery in the future. More than two decades later, that dream became a reality. Manuel opened Dougboy’s Cafe. They make everything from scratch and take a lot of pride in it. They sell American pastries, Mexican pastries, breakfast burritos and lunch food. Seven years later they are still completely hands-on and even their son helps out. The donut fryer broke about a year ago, but Alma decided to get it repaired even though it cost more than buying a new one. She says that fryer serves as a daily reminder to follow your dreams. See picture two for the donut fryer. Doughboy’s Cafe 📍1621 W 10th St 📞432-276-5576 ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud

Looking into the Fire The Citizen Fire Academy is an annual 10-week program hosted by Odessa Fire Rescue. It allows participants to gain hands-on experience with the different aspects of being a First Responder. “I was looking to see more of the insider scoop of Odessa,” Odessa Chamber of Commerce Marketing Communications Specialist Allison Gray said. This program also allows citizens to meet the men and women who protect us daily in a more personable way. “When you meet the fire department or EMTs or anything like that, you’re meeting them in maybe the scariest time of your life,” Allison said. While this year’s sign-ups have passed, you can become part of the 2025 Citizens Fire Academy by going to https://lnkd.in/ga6pPXAr and signing up starting on July 1, 2025. Together for Change Odessa Links aims to raise awareness for our neighbors without homes. “I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for Odessa Links and the Salvation Army,” Craig from Transitional Housing who previously experienced homelessness said. Odessa Links held an event to recognize National Homeless Day earlier in the week. Various organizations, including the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, and the Salvation Army, were there to share their resources and the importance of their work. Odessa Links Executive Director Andrea Quiroz said the hope to raise awareness that those experiencing homelessness can include individuals who were hospitalized for an extended period, those displaced by disasters, and many others. She hopes to continue making a positive impact on the lives of Odessans. ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud

Sweet Success! 🍨🧁 Gisela and Rogelio Davila have always embraced new challenges! Gisela has worked in the educational sector, while Rogelio is an electrician. Along with their jobs, they have also ventured into different types of businesses. It’s included everything from providing furniture for children's parties to offering catering services for family gatherings. Now, they have decided to pursue something new. Today, they held a Grand Opening for “KD's Paleteria & Snacks.” The new business is located in north Odessa. Their vision is to provide the community with popsicles, ice cream, strawberries with cream, waffles, mini pancakes, fruit cocktails, and various snacks for families to enjoy. Rogelio also fondly recalled a childhood memory of selling popsicles. Also, this is truly a family affair. The couple along with their children, Ketzia and Kelvin, are excited to take on this new venture! KD's Paleteria & Snacks 📍 980 E. 87th St., Suite G ✅BrighterFuture #OdessaProud
