Congratulations to the latest graduates of the Richardson CARES program! This evening the City Council presented class participants with their certificates of completion for taking part in the Citizens Academy & Resource Education Series (CARES). CARES empowers community members with an insider's perspective on the inner workings of Richardson’s municipal government. Over the past weeks, participants gained valuable knowledge about our city's services, from public safety and utilities to parks and administration. CARES is open to anyone who lives or works in Richardson. Applications for the next cohort will open in June.

In the hustle and bustle of our careers, it’s easy to let certain passions fall by the wayside, whether it’s learning an instrument or picking up a brush to put paint to paper. At the Richardson Senior Center, however, retirees are discovering the time and freedom to explore new interests and expand their horizons in ways they couldn’t before. We recently visited with a few of them to share their inspiring stories on other social media channels and thought it would be nice to share here too.

Our Solid Waste Management Team is looking forward to connecting with the community during an open house tonight that will gather feedback for an update to the City’s Solid Waste Master Plan (SWMP). The plan outlines strategies for trash, recycling, and Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC), setting the City’s long-term approach to managing waste. Elements of the plan looks at things like environmental protection, ways to reduce waste, and finding cost efficiencies. The open house will be tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 8) from 6-8 p.m. at Richardson City Hall, located at 2360 Campbell Creek Blvd., Suite 525.

Congratulations to the Richardson Police Department on a very successful National Night Out. The City of Richardson Texas turned out en mass to demonstrate their support for our first responders by Turning the Town Blue! Tonight we strengthened our neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships while sending a message to criminals letting them know that Richardson’s neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

People lined up once again today for the second Richardson Replants giveaway, held in conjunction with National Night Out. At one of tonight’s locations, more than half of the trees were claimed within the first 20 minutes, while at another location we visited, there was just one tree left in less than an hour. Richardson Replants was created by the City Council to help restore the community’s tree canopy after severe impacts from a severe weather event in May that downed many trees across the community and North Texas region. The next giveaway event is scheduled to take place this weekend from 1-2 p.m. at the Library's Tree Care with the Texas Trees Foundation event at the City Council Chamber (enter at City Hall - the entrance closest to the intersection of Plano and Greenville) 2360 Campbell Creek Blvd., Ste. 500. Visit https://lnkd.in/ggTZbCvf for information on other giveaway events set for Oct. 19 and Nov. 1.
