Our Solid Waste Management Team is looking forward to connecting with the community during an open house tonight that will gather feedback for an update to the City’s Solid Waste Master Plan (SWMP). The plan outlines strategies for trash, recycling, and Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC), setting the City’s long-term approach to managing waste. Elements of the plan looks at things like environmental protection, ways to reduce waste, and finding cost efficiencies. The open house will be tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 8) from 6-8 p.m. at Richardson City Hall, located at 2360 Campbell Creek Blvd., Suite 525.

City of Richardson Texas reposted this
Congratulations to the Richardson Police Department on a very successful National Night Out. The City of Richardson Texas turned out en mass to demonstrate their support for our first responders by Turning the Town Blue! Tonight we strengthened our neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships while sending a message to criminals letting them know that Richardson’s neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

People lined up once again today for the second Richardson Replants giveaway, held in conjunction with National Night Out. At one of tonight’s locations, more than half of the trees were claimed within the first 20 minutes, while at another location we visited, there was just one tree left in less than an hour. Richardson Replants was created by the City Council to help restore the community’s tree canopy after severe impacts from a severe weather event in May that downed many trees across the community and North Texas region. The next giveaway event is scheduled to take place this weekend from 1-2 p.m. at the Library's Tree Care with the Texas Trees Foundation event at the City Council Chamber (enter at City Hall - the entrance closest to the intersection of Plano and Greenville) 2360 Campbell Creek Blvd., Ste. 500. Visit https://lnkd.in/ggTZbCvf for information on other giveaway events set for Oct. 19 and Nov. 1.

Applications are currently being accepted for people seeking to serve on one of Richardson’s boards and commissions. Members are made up of resident volunteers who give their time, knowledge and expertise to make a difference in the community. Boards serve in an advisory capacity, examining in-depth issues such as park development and planning and zoning, and make recommendations to the City Council. A boards/commissions open house event is scheduled for 6 p.m. next Monday, Sept. 30, at Richardson City Hall. The open house will be a come-and-go event where potential applicants can interact with City Council members and City staff and ask questions. The application period closes at the end of September. You can find out more at www.cor.net/GetOnBoard and submit an application today! #RichardsonMakeADifference!

The Richardson City Council was honored with the North Texas Commission’s (NTC) prestigious Diversity Leadership Award today during the Annual NTC Members Luncheon at Live! At Loews in Arlington. The award is one of the region’s most esteemed accolades recognizing individuals or groups for their exemplary commitment to diversity and was presented to the Richardson City Council for its work in fostering a more inclusive and engaging community through the formation of the Community Inclusion and Engagement Commission (CIEC). The commission plays a role in bridging the gap between Richardson’s diverse stakeholders and residents, advising the City Council on best practices to ensure the city is welcoming to all. The CIEC began meeting last June and is currently working on building its strategic plan. https://lnkd.in/gy7AhYQF (Pictured from left to right: Greg Sowell, MBA, CPC, CIEC Staff Liaison; Curtis Dorian, City Council Member; Bob Dubey, Mayor; Rashmi Varma, CIEC Commission Chair; Ken Hutchenrider, City Council Member; Don Magner, City Manager)

We wanted to take this time to recognize our Information Technology professionals. They help keep the City of Richardson humming every day with their expertise on everything from desktops and laptops to mobile devices, servers, and cybersecurity. Our IT Department is spread out throughout several facilities including the Richardson Fire Department and the Richardson Police Department. They provide technical support during community events such as the Wildflower Arts & Music Festival and help set up command centers during emergency situations. Thank you to our IT team. #NationalITProfessionalsDay #RichardsonMakeADifference

Earlier this week, a Richardson resident was recognized for jumping into action when a stranger went into cardiac arrest. His quick thinking and bravery along with the assistance of a Richardson 911 dispatcher and Richardson firefighters helped saved the man’s life. WFAA visited the Richardson Fire Department to talk with the local hero and the neighbor he saved. #RichardsonMakeADifference
