🚧 #FixItFriday - New "Jetter" Trailer 💰 In 2023 the City rented a similar trailer for nearly $40,000. 🏦 Owning the trailer will save City money within 2 years. 👷♂️ The "jetter" trailer helps clear sewer drain blockages that are most common in the rainy season. It is also used to help prevent Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs), which can cause unsanitary conditions and contaminate storm drains that lead to our rivers and waterways.

💦 Water Quality and Hydraulic Model Update 📘 The City of St. Helena’s Public Works Department is actively working to resolve ongoing water quality issues, including noticeable discoloration that has affected our community for some time. While this is not the first notification regarding water clarity challenges, we want to assure residents that improving water quality remains the top priority. The discoloration results from seasonal variations in raw water sources and elevated levels of manganese. Although the water being produced meets all health and safety standards, we are taking both immediate and long-term steps to address the unpalatable nature of the current water quality and clarity. The City issued a press release and posted to its social media accounts last week to notify the community about planned activities designed to develop a better understanding of water flow in the system. The flushing activities for our hydraulic model took place on October 28th and 29th. As we anticipated and previously communicated, this flushing process may have temporarily impacted water quality as minerals and debris were stirred up within the old pipes. We appreciate the community’s patience as these essential tests help with the development of the system’s hydraulic model. When completed, the hydraulic model will help us improve water quality and clarity within the network of water pipes that run beneath our streets. Your City team is committed to long-term solutions to improve and maintain water quality. Current initiatives include: 🗒️ Facility Condition Assessment and Process Optimization Study: Nearing completion, this study will help identify operational improvements to increase efficiency and reliability. 💧 Bell Canyon Intake Tower Replacement Project: In the design phase, this project aims to improve water intake and quality. This project is expected to be completed in 2026. 💦 Tank 2 Rehabilitation Project: In the design phase, this project will refurbish and enhance the storage capacity and quality of water in Tank 2. This project is expected to be completed in 2026. 🚰 Napa Intertie Replacement Project: In the design stage, this effort will upgrade the infrastructure connecting our system with neighboring water sources. This project is expected to be completed in 2026. The City Council has approved a water filter rebate program to support residents and businesses interested in installing water filtration systems. The program will launch on the City’s website on November 1. Information and how to apply for the rebate will be available at cityofsthelena.gov/water. Additionally, last week, regulators from the State Water Resources Control Board were on-site to conduct treatment testing, which allows us to fine-tune our processes for removing organic materials from the water supply. 🔗 Read the complete update and read previous updates at https://lnkd.in/g7vShHYY

🚒 City of St. Helena Announces Hydrant Flow Testing and Pressure Monitoring Program 💦 The City of St. Helena will be conducting important hydrant flow testing and pressure monitoring as part of ongoing efforts to develop and calibrate the City’s water system hydraulic model. The testing will take place October 28 through November 6, 2024, with hydrant flow tests specifically scheduled for Tuesday, October 29. This program is crucial to improving the accuracy of the water system model, which will help the City make informed decisions about future water infrastructure. 📝 The testing will include two types of evaluations: - Hydrant Flow Tests (single location): These tests will provide data to confirm/model pipeline roughness factors to ensure the hydraulic model accurately reflects real-world conditions. - Fire Flow Tests: These will confirm the model’s ability to simulate fire flow conditions under normal operations, verifying the system’s capacity to meet emergency demands. - Flow/Pressure Monitoring Tests: Conducted over several days, the instruments will monitor pressure within the system and further aid in the calibration of the model. 📆 Key Dates and Activities: - October 28, 2024: Hydrant pressure recorders (HPRs) will be installed at 11 key hydrants throughout the City to collect pressure data over a 10-day period. - October 29, 2024: Hydrant flow testing will be performed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. - November 6, 2024: HPRs will be removed, and the collected data will be reviewed by the City and West Yost, the City’s consultant for the project. 📱 Residents may notice brief periods of water discoloration or reduced pressure during this time, particularly on October 29, when the hydrant flow tests are conducted. The City advises residents to avoid doing laundry during testing hours, as water discoloration could lead to staining. Running cold water for several minutes should help clear any temporary discoloration. If the discoloration does not clear up after the testing has been conducted, please report through the St. Helena Grapevine so that additional hydrant flushing can take place, https://lnkd.in/gTEQMcHE. 🔗 Read more: https://loom.ly/A09ZyZM.
