This year, we launched a new recognition program that included two new awards. Last week, at the first-ever Staff Recognition Breakfast, Kathy Leervig was the very first recipient of the Employee Excellence Award! "Whether it’s stuffing folders, brainstorming ideas, or streamlining processes, Kathy is always the first to volunteer and lend a helping hand. She has a remarkable ability to connect with everyone she works with, earning the trust and admiration of many. In addition to her professional excellence, Kathy has demonstrated incredible resilience. Between leading an election process, juggling her family responsibilities, and managing her many roles, she remains kind, grounded, and as supportive as ever. There are times when you might want to remind her to take a break—but her unwavering commitment speaks to the heart of who she is." Kathy was nominated for demonstrating our values of Teamwork and Responsiveness. Her dedication and willingness to help have set her apart as an exceptional team player in Wayzata!

Here are some fun highlights from their staff nominations: "Each division within Public Works not only handles their daily responsibilities but consistently goes above and beyond. Whether it’s the Parks Department stepping in to help a resident with garbage or recycling on short notice, or the City Forester becoming available at a moment’s notice, or the Utilities Department showing up to immediately assist with a sewer backup, or the street’s department coming in early or staying late to ensure all our projects get completed with the minimal disruption to the community, or the office staff covering for one another and stepping up to help across departments. This team shows up when our community needs them most. Public Works truly is a "well-oiled machine"—a team that works together flawlessly to keep our city running smoothly. "

This position is responsible for developing, directing, and providing ongoing leadership and supervision in the planning, building, economic development, and historic preservation functions of the City. Proactively and cohesively leads the department's many facets in alignment with the City's strategic plan and best practices. Experience the New Panoway Walking Tour! Learn about each phase of the Panoway Project. At each of the numbered locations within the story map linked below, there will be a walking tour checkpoint sign. Scan the QR code on each sign to jump to information and photos that highlight that location. You're invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Panoway Lakewalk and Docks! Join us on July 13 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening of the Panoway Lakewalk and Docks. A formal ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Panoway Plaza followed by a ceremonial “first walk” on the Lakewalk. Other activities will begin at noon and will include food, music, boat rides, art, a project walking tour, and more! Save the Date! Panoway on Wayzata Bay is nearing completion of Phase 2, featuring a 1,200-foot lake walk and new public docks at the Depot and Broadway locations! Construction is planned for completion at the end of May, and we're pleased to announce a ribbon-cutting celebration hosted on Lake Street and the Panoway on Saturday, July 13th! The event will feature a formal dedication ceremony, an official ribbon cutting, a"first walk" on the lake walk, and unique family-friendly activities for both residents and visitors. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks. Panoway on Wayzata Bay has been produced via a long-term public-private partnership. This means that the public and private sectors are working together to collaborate on short and long-term needs while funding the design, construction, maintenance, and operations of the new public amenities. We are grateful to our partners and generous donors for their long-term support and look forward to celebrating the completion of phase two with the community! So proud of Valerie Quarles, Andrew Faulkner, and Rick Williams for their thoughtful and well-attended presentation on adopting objective design standards at American Planning Association #NPC24 today!! They have contributed many great ideas to Wayzata and I’m so grateful. Shout out to Nick Kieser for his hard work on the Wayzata Design Standards in 2020-2021.

Check out the latest progress on the Panoway Lakewalk and Docks! Aesthetic treatments are still being installed, with the goal of opening on Memorial Day. Wayzata's Mayor, Johanna Mouton spoke about this project and other key highlights and City information last week at the State of the City Address.
