  • City Utilities is making major moves to ensure Springfield’s energy reliability and sustainability for years to come, including adding 150 MW of electric generation and 36 MW of battery storage, enhancing the resilience of our energy grid as demand grows and weather patterns become more unpredictable. This investment includes: Three 50 MW gas turbines at McCartney Generating Station A 36 MW battery storage system to store energy for peak times These projects will help us meet future energy needs, increase our capacity, and comply with new requirements for winter energy reserves. Thanks to support from the Inflation Reduction Act, the cost of the battery project will be significantly reduced! • Ghosts, witches, and vampires may be lurking outside, but inside your home, it’s the energy vampires you need to watch out for! These sneaky creatures drain your electricity and pump up your bills – even when devices are “off” but still plugged in. For example, leaving a smartphone charger in the wall still consumes 0.26 watts, and a fully charged phone left plugged in draws 2.24 watts. Multiply that by your gadgets and appliances, and you’ve got a real fright on your hands! Here are a few ways to slay these energy vampires and keep your bills from creeping up: 🧛 Unplug Strategically – Focus on devices you rarely use, like that extra TV in the guest room. Only plug in when needed. 🧛 Power Strips to the Rescue – Use power strips to switch off multiple devices at once, or try advanced power strips that cut power to idle electronics. 🧛 Cut Idle Time – Power off computers or game consoles fully instead of just pausing or putting them to sleep. 🧛 Upgrade Wisely – Swap old devices for Energy Star-rated ones to save energy in the long run.

  • If you catch a whiff of a strange, rotten egg smell, it could be a natural gas leak! Here’s how to keep yourself safe: 🏃♀️ Get out fast – safety first! Get to a safe location at least three light poles (or 500 feet) away. 📞 Once you are a safe distance away, call 417-863-9000 or 911 to report it. Let us handle the rest! When it comes to safety, we leave the hocus pocus to the Sanderson Sisters! If something doesn’t smell right, trust your nose and stay safe this spooky season. 🎃 Learn more about natural gas safety at https://bit.ly/3tQsEeI

With more than 400 runners showing up to make a difference, this was truly our biggest Hustle yet! 💜 A huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and donated to help us support Harmony House in their mission. Your generosity means so much, and it will have a direct impact on survivors in our community. We can’t wait to see you next year for another fantastic event!
