Halloween is tomorrow! There is a potential for rain on Halloween night but here are a few safety tips to keep in mind if you decide to brave the raindrops and go trick-or-treating: 🎃Never leave your children unattended while trick-or-treating. Trick or treat in a group. There is safety in numbers. 🎃Make sure to use flashlights and wear brightly colored or reflective clothing to ensure drivers can see your trick-or-treaters. It can be especially hard to see in rainy conditions. 🎃Remind your child to look both ways before crossing a street and to walk and not run while trick or treating. 🎃Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something, say something. Call 9-1-1 if you observe any dangerous or suspicious activities. 🎃Always carefully inspect your child’s candy before they eat it. Look for anything out of the ordinary, including discoloration of candy, pinholes or tears in the candy wrappers, or items that are unwrapped or spoiled. 🎃Children should not eat anything that isn’t commercially wrapped. Homemade baked goods or candy should only be accepted if you personally know the person who made it. When in doubt, throw it out! 🎃If you suspect any candy you have received is tainted, please contact the Poison Control Center at 800.222.1222 and the Redding Police Department at 530.225.4200. #Halloween #Safety #CityOfRedding #ReddingCalifornia

With rain in the forecast this week, work that was expected to happen tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29th, and Wednesday, October 30th, on the pickleball courts at Enterprise Park will be postponed. Instead, the courts will be closed next Monday, November 4th, and Tuesday, November 5th for resurfacing and restriping. Signage will be posted at the location. The courts are four years old and with all of the traffic they see every day, it’s time for a refresh. Only the newest six courts furthest from the parking area are impacted by this closure, the six courts within the skating rink will remain open during the repair. Thank you for your patience while we make improvements to the pickleball courts.

We need your feedback! The Redding Police Department and the City of Redding are partnering with Healthy Shasta to help keep everyone safe on the road. We’d like your opinion on two slogans that could be used to remind people to look out for each other, whether they are walking, biking, or driving. Which slogan do you feel is the best reminder for everyone using the roadways? “Travel Nice, Look Twice” or “Eagle Eyes Save Lives”? Tell us in the comments below!

Fall leaves are a beautiful sight to behold, but as the trees begin to shed their fall colors, those leaves can clog gutters and storm drains, increasing the risk of pooling water and flooding and creating a potential fire hazard. Now is a great time to take a close look at your gutters and storm drains ahead of the rainy season! If you need help getting rid of excess leaves, check out the Free Leaf Disposal Program. Current City of Redding Solid Waste customers can bring their excess leaves to the Transfer Station for free between Friday, November 1, 2024, and Friday, January 31, 2025. A current City of Redding Utility bill and a photo I.D. are required to use this service. Leaves must be removed from any plastic or paper bags used to transport them to the Transfer Station. The Transfer Station is located at 2255 Abernathy Lane in Redding. As a reminder, leaves can also be placed into your green bin loose, without any plastic or paper bags. For more information on this program, call the City of Redding Solid Waste Utility at 530-224-6201. For information on how to properly dispose of other items, check out the Waste Wizard tool here: https://lnkd.in/gPaRvYGa #CityOfRedding #SolidWasteUtility #FreeLeafDisposalProgram #ReddingCalifornia

It's Cybersecurity Awareness Month and the City of Redding's IT Department has shared a few tips for protecting your Personally Identifiable Information (PII). 💡 Keep a close grip on your Social Security Number (SSN) – Your SSN is a prized possession for malicious actors. Having your SSN unlocks doors to your finances, employment, credit scores, and much more. Do not give anyone your SSN unless necessary. Here is where using your SSN is required: - Employment or contracting with a business. - Group health insurance. - Financial and real estate transactions. - Applying for credit. Hackers often gain access to SSNs by hacking organizations that have it on file. Minimizing who you give your SSN to will minimize the risk of having it stolen. 💡 Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) where available – Data stored online should not be protected by only a username and password. Email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Microsoft all provide MFA to further protect your account. Think of all the PII that may be in your email. Name, address, contacts, and possibly more. Using MFA is a secure method to help protect your PII. 💡 Be mindful of what you share – Sharing information online may seem harmless or even playful, but it could be malicious. Take for example online “quizzes” that are shared on Social Media. These quizzes may ask “Who’s your favorite superhero?” or “What city were you born in?” While these pieces of information may not be PII, they can lead hackers to your accounts that contain PII. Think of where else you might answer these questions…That’s right! During a password recovery! This is exactly what the hacker is looking for. They gather your answers from the quiz and then attempt to password recover your accounts. 💡 Monitor your accounts – Regularly review your financial accounts and credit reports for any unauthorized activity. #CityOfRedding #ITDepartment #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth
