The City of Rolling Hills Estates officially became Los Angeles County’s 60th municipality on September 18, 1957. In that first year, the City’s population totaled only 3,500, but its new citizens were united in their concern over maintaining the community’s rural atmosphere and equestrian lifestyle, characterized by rolling hills, white fences, bridle trails, and vast open spaces. The City continues to represent the basic ideals held by the original “incorporating pioneers” while remaining responsive to the changing needs and interests of its residents. The City takes an active role in maintaining the high quality of life that makes this community such an attractive place to live. As in the past, today’s emphasis in managing the City is placed upon preserving its rural residential character and, at the same time, providing the best possible services to its citizens.

The City of Rolling Hills Estates is pleased to introduce newly named Lomita Sheriff’s Station Captain Kimberly Guerrero to the community! Captain Guerrero began leading the station on October 29 following her appointment by Sheriff Robert Luna. She was voted the top choice by an interview panel comprised of officials from the cities of Lomita, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, and the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn. Captain Guerrero is a 26-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, having started her career as a deputy assigned to Men’s Central Jail in 1997. She went on to serve in the Court Services Division and at the Carson Station before she was promoted to Sergeant at the Norwalk Station in 2006. Captain Guerrero was assigned to the Century Regional Detention Facility in 2016 and was promoted to Lieutenant with the Countywide Services Division in 2020. Since then, she served as Operations Lieutenant at the Carson Station, Executive Aid to the Chief and Area Commanders in the Executive Division at Central Patrol Administrative Headquarters, and most recently in the Office of the Assistant Sheriff. As she moved up the ranks, Captain Guerrero has been responsible for handling assignments that involve major crime scenes, investigations, personnel issues, officer training, community outreach, and public speaking. She holds a bachelor’s degree in applied psychology from Cal State Dominguez Hills and is completing a master’s degree in emergency services administration from Cal State Long Beach. She is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. In her free time, Captain Guerrero enjoys mentoring staff across ranks, volunteering as a youth sports coach, spending time with her family, staying active, and traveling. She knows the Peninsula very well, as she has family in RPV, lived in the City for a few years after college, and worked at Petco in the Peninsula Shopping Center before beginning her career in law enforcement.
