Following the recent announcement of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s 'Final Rule for Oil and Natural Gas Operators' on #MethaneEmissions, the landscape for detection and compliance is evolving rapidly. Thought I would share a bit about potential detection solutions that we work with clients on for #drone and manned #aviation applications. * Sniffers detect methane leaks through direct air sampling. Portable, and cost-effective these sensors provide real-time alerts.  Aerially the trick is that it is very hard to discern the source vs simply the presence of a plume. * Optical Gas Imaging. Utilizing infrared technology, #OGI visualizes methane emissions, allowing for swift identification of leaks in real time, even in remote or inaccessible areas..  This technology provides imagery of the detected plume making it Ideal for pinpointing sources with precision.  These systems are tuned to trigger on the gas of interest. * Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectrometer. Cutting-edge laser technology enables #TDLAS to detect methane with exceptional accuracy and sensitivity.  Most often these are a single laser, making data collection challenging to determine source of leak * Gas Mapping Lidar.  This specific #Lidar technology creates detailed 3D maps of gas concentrations over large areas. Offers impressive coverage and efficiency, and real time visualization of plume.   Choosing the right sensor and the right aerial platform can be tricky. Not all sensors provide equal data.  Some provide quantification; some imagery, some speciation and some can do multiple.   Platform selection is also critical to creation of optimum solution.  Manned vs unmanned aircraft, fixed wing vs rotorcraft.
