  • ⚡ Building the Future of Energy in Houston ⚡ Nada Ahmed and Jason Ethier came on the pod to tell us about how Energy Tech Nexus is accelerating the energy transition in Houston This episode covers 5 major themes shaping the future of clean energy: 1️⃣ Trump’s Energy Policy & Its Impact on Clean Tech - The new administration’s focus on oil and gas creates uncertainty for clean energy projects. - While some federal funding is on hold, there’s still state-level and private capital available for climate tech. 🔥 Takeaway: Clean tech startups must adapt by securing private investment, strategic partnerships, and global markets. 2️⃣ Will Nuclear Finally Scale? - The administration is pro-nuclear, pro-geothermal, and pushing baseload power options. - Key challenge: Public perception & long permitting timelines. ⚛️ Takeaway: If nuclear can fast-track permitting and gain public trust, it could see major momentum. 3️⃣ Can Carbon Capture Thrive? - Oil & gas majors are investing in CCS to meet corporate sustainability targets. - CCS is essential for hard-to-abate sectors (steel, cement) & securing net-zero goals for data centers. 🌱 Takeaway: Carbon capture will continue to grow, but its long-term viability depends on policy and private funding. 4️⃣ How Can Clean Tech Startups Win? - Pilot projects are critical—startups need to prove technology, secure offtakers, and attract investors. - Houston is a prime location for developing and deploying large-scale energy projects. 🚀 Takeaway: Successful startups act as project developers, not just tech providers—integrating EPC, financing, and corporate buy-in. 5️⃣ Houston’s Role in the Energy Transition - Houston is not just for oil & gas—it’s a growing hub for industrial-scale clean tech innovation. - Energy Tech Nexus connects startups with corporate partners, investors, and pilot projects. 🏗 Takeaway: The next wave of billion-dollar clean energy companies ("Thunder Lizards") will likely emerge from Houston. 🎧 Listen now for expert insights on building clean energy startups, navigating the new administration, and why Houston is the future of energy innovation. #EnergyTech #CarbonCapture #Nuclear #Houston #CleanTech 🔗 Listen now: (link in comments)

Anca Timofte, CEO and co-founder of Holocene, is revolutionizing direct air capture and landed Google as a customer Here's how. 1️⃣ A New Way to Capture Carbon - Holocene’s liquid-based, low-temperature system removes CO2 continuously, unlike traditional solid adsorbent approaches that require cartridges. - The process functions like a chemical plant, making it more energy-efficient and scalable. - Takeaway: Aqueous-based carbon capture is a game-changer—faster, cheaper, and more efficient than many existing systems. 2️⃣ Why Google Chose Holocene - Holocene secured Google’s first DAC carbon credit purchase outside of the Frontier Fund. - They’re selling carbon removal credits at $100/ton, a price point that could unlock mass adoption of DAC. - Takeaway: Big Tech is betting on scalable carbon removal—and Holocene is leading the charge. 3️⃣ Beyond Storage: CO₂ Utilization for Synthetic Fuels - In addition to underground storage, Holocene sells CO₂ to partners producing synthetic fuels, chemicals, and refrigerants. - Their process repurposes carbon, turning emissions into valuable products. - Takeaway: Carbon capture isn’t just about storage—it’s about reusing CO₂ in new and sustainable ways. 4️⃣ Scaling Fast: From Pilot to Commercial Deployment - Holocene launched a pilot plant in Tennessee in 2023, testing its system in real-world conditions. - The company is now engineering its first commercial-scale demonstration plant, 200–500x bigger than their pilot. - Takeaway: Scaling a DAC company requires strategic engineering and early customer buy-in—Holocene is making both happen. 5️⃣ Carbon Capture in the Biden-Trump Era - DAC has bipartisan appeal—even if climate policy shifts, carbon removal remains a key industry. - Holocene is focused on technology development and customer-driven funding rather than relying solely on government incentives. - Takeaway: The carbon removal industry is here to stay—even in uncertain political times. 🎧 Listen to the full episode to hear Anca's insights on scaling climate technology, securing big-name partnerships, and building a climate tech company from scratch. 🔆 Syzygy deploys the world's largest all-electric ammonia cracking system and proves the viability of using ammonia as an energy carrier. 🔆 “We made history with this project,” said Suman Khatiwada, PhD. "The next step is small commercial plant deployment." LOTTE chemical recently commissioned and tested Syzygy's ammonia e-cracking reactor cell at its facility in Ulsan, South Korea with logistical support from Sumitomo Corporation of Americas and Sumitomo Corporation Korea. The outstanding results in Ulsan set the stage for energy importing regions like Korea to engage in clean ammonia imports. The Rigel cell operated flawlessly throughout all phases of the trial. By manipulating flowrate and light intensity during separate testing phases, the cell produced all-time best achievements: - 11 kWh/kg of hydrogen - 81 percent energy efficiency - 99 percent conversion - 290 kg/d of hydrogen These outstanding results at a third-party site give Syzygy a clear pathway to achieve 8 kWh/kg of hydrogen at the cell level in future Rigel cell designs. Excited to announce we’ve raised a $5.5m Seed round, co-led by The Westly Group and Molten Ventures, to scale Sightline Climate (CTVC) — our market intelligence platform powering strategic decision-making and capital allocation across the transition economy. This fundraise comes at a critical moment. The shift towards cleaner, better, and cheaper is underway, but the transition’s underlying competitiveness faces its most existential questions yet — AI-driven power demand, shifting US energy policies, wavering net zero commitments, climate tech racing to scale, and escalating risks in a world beyond 1.5°C. More than ever, companies and investors need trusted information and a clear line of sight to build competitive strategies and deploy capital. That’s why we built Sightline — to help key stakeholders think bigger, go deeper, and act faster to compete and win in the transition that is rapidly transforming the energy, transport, and industrial sectors. So far, the numbers speak for themselves: 🤝 In just one year since launching Sightline, we’ve grown to over 70 international customers across leading corporates, financiers, and governments — including HSBC, Southern Company, BHP, Galvanize Climate Solutions, and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) 👯 Our team is now almost 30! Grateful to count some of the most passionate, intelligent, and genuine people as fellow teammates and colleagues. We couldn’t have gotten here without each and every Sightliner 😉 🌎 And of course, we’re also proud to count all 70,000 of you loyal CTVC readers as part of this journey, guess 70 is our lucky number We’re thrilled to partner with leading investors like The Westly Group and Molten Ventures to take Sightline to the next level. With expertise spanning the US and Europe, climate, and software, they’re a power duo that reflects the global scale and the interconnected physical and digital dimensions of the transition we’re accelerating. Now with $5.5M fresh in the tank, we’re building on our momentum and hitting the accelerator to provide a line of sight for key stakeholders at this critical moment in the transition. Want to join in the fun? Here’s how you can get involved: 👋 Join the team. We’re hiring! We've got a long sales pipeline, super-engaged customers, and a product solving real challenges, but of course, we need the team to match. If you're passionate about shaping the next chapter of the transition, then join us. ☎️ Join the club. Whether you’re an investor, corporate strategist, or policymaker, Sightline helps you think bigger, go deeper, and act faster.
