Clearwater Marine Aquarium's animal care team is happy to report the interactions between Rosie and Hope have been positive! The team has observed the pair swimming together, interacting, and sharing enrichment! Because of this, the decision was made to integrate Rudy into this new dolphin social grouping. The introduction was a success and we are excited for the opportunity to continuously expand upon CMA's dolphin fission-fusion social structure.

Meet manatee rehab patient Yeti! He was 216 centimeters long and weighed 485 pounds at the time of his rescue. Yeti was transported to ZooTampa for critical care and was transferred to Clearwater Marine Aquarium for continued rehabilitation. • Here at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, our animal care team is constantly working to improve the socialization opportunities for our rescued dolphins. Yesterday, Hope the bottlenose dolphin got a chance to interact with Rosie the rough-toothed dolphin! CMA is one of only two facilities in the US to care for rescued rough-toothed dolphins. While rough-toothed dolphins are a deep-water species and bottlenose dolphins live closer to shore, the two species have been known to interact together in the wild.    This introduction facilitates a more natural fission-fusion social grouping with our cetaceans and provides social variability between our resident dolphins! The introduction went well and we look forward to many more positive encounters.    Get tickets to visit our dolphins: www.cmaquarium.org

  • Have you heard the term washback? It's a term used to describe a sea turtle hatchling that has "washed back" to shore after attempting to make its way to the ocean. These washback hatchlings have been receiving care at CMA's sea turtle rehabilitation hospital before they were taken by boat to a sargassum line in the gulf for release! Thanks to our sea turtle nesting and rehab teams for giving these hatchlings a second chance!

  • We’re here to answer the call to manatees in need! CMA rescue team members assisted with a manatee rescue in Oldsmar this week. Unfortunately, manatees can become trapped in interconnected lake systems as water levels rise and fall. Luckily, once this manatee was rescued, it was able to be released right away into safer waters! Thanks to our partners: University of Florida Marine Animal Rescue, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, ZooTampa at Lowry Park, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

  • The two juvenile manatees that arrived at Clearwater Marine Aquarium on July 30 have been adapting quickly to their new surroundings in the Manatee Rehabilitation Center. Yeti and Zamboni have been under close observation over the past 12 days to monitor their behavior and ensure they are acclimating and eating well in their new environment. We will begin welcoming visitors to the Manatee Rehabilitation Center starting today! Visitors will be able to view manatees through our underwater viewing area with barriers to limit human interaction. We ask visitors to maintain a quiet atmosphere and refrain from flash photography while walking through our marine life hospital. Our goal is to prepare these manatees for their eventual release in the winter and provide them the best chance for success in the wild. Your visit helps support our rescue, rehab, release and conservation efforts to protect these animals, and we are excited to invite you to be part of our mission and discover the wonder of manatees. • Have you ever visited a new place and needed some time to get your bearings? A long car ride, a new bed to sleep in, new people to get to know…it can all be a little overwhelming! Our manatee patients have gone through something similar in their journey to CMA’s Manatee Rehabilitation Center. Now that Yeti and Zamboni are in their new temporary home, we've been giving them time to acclimate to their surroundings. Our manatee rehab team are continuously monitoring their eating, pooping, breathing, and swimming patterns to determine how they are feeling post-transport.
