In a recent collaboration with Michigan State, Cleveland Clinic researchers uncovered a key gene in post-COVID lung fibrosis. Their discovery of the ATP12A gene reveals its direct role in lung scarring and mucus production. This breakthrough provides a  foundation for future research aimed at developing effective treatments for pulmonary fibrosis. This year, Kala Mahen, a third-year graduate student in the lab of Dr. J. Mark Brown, received $25,000 in VeloSano funding for her innovative work on skin cancer treatments.
