🌟We bring you another climate adaptation story from SAMVAD, an inspiring NGO that was part of our journey! 🌟 In India’s Uda Manjhaltand Village, SAMVAD tackled conflicts over Mahua flower collection that were harming local forests. By organizing a Gram Sabha meeting, they united the community to conserve 12,800 Mahua trees and protect their forest resources. This successful initiative not only preserved the environment but also inspired neighboring villages to adopt similar practices, enhancing local livelihoods. Meanwhile, in Podaghumari Village, SAMVAD addressed the issue of plastic pollution with a bold move. The Green Club led a village-wide boycott of plastic, replacing it with eco-friendly leaf plates and cups. Their awareness campaign and local craftsmanship turned Podaghumari into a plastic-free village, showcasing the power of grassroots action. SAMVAD’s stories highlight the impact of community-driven climate adaptation and environmental conservation. 🌍 #ClimateAdaptation #CommunityImpact #EnvironmentalConservation #PlasticFree #EcoFriendly

🚨 The green economy is growing, but where are the women? According to LinkedIn’s 2023 Global Green Skills Report, only 1 in 10 women have green skills, compared to 1 in 6 men. This gender gap is even more pronounced in the renewable energy sector, where women make up just 34% of the workforce and only 21% of C-suite roles. The report reveals that two-thirds of the global green talent pool is male, indicating a widening gap that not only limits women’s access to emerging job opportunities but also restricts our collective ability to effectively tackle climate change. Addressing this green gender gap is essential for building a truly inclusive and sustainable future. New policies and programs must be developed to empower more women with the green skills that are becoming increasingly critical across all industries. The Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Government of India along with NABARD - National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, hosted a consultative meeting on ‘Climate Adaptation Resourcing for India’ under the GCF Readiness Program in Mumbai today. This meeting served as a consultation with wider stakeholders on financial resources for climate adaptation in India. Koushik Yanamandram from Climate Asia attended the workshop, and we’re here to share the key insights from the discussions, led by MoEFCC, NABARD, the Green Climate Fund, and UNDP in India: 🌱Defining overall adaptation funding requirements of up to $60 trillion by 2030, involving government, DFIs, and the private sector. 🌱Identifying sectors needing support beyond mitigation, such as agriculture, water, ecosystem services, and disaster-resilient infrastructure. 🌱Exploring how financial institutions like RBI, SIDBI, NIIF, and CSR can evolve financing for adaptation. 🌱Developing a taxonomy for financial assets and models. 🌱Enhancing capacity-building efforts to strengthen adaptation capabilities at sub-national and local levels. 🌱Outlining regulatory requirements for adaptation finance and reviewing existing models. 🌱Establishing adaptation-centric budgetary provisions, with 465 government schemes from 38 ministries identified to align with adaptation measures. 🌱Highlighting the role of private capital in startups and MSMEs in the climate action space, as shared by Avaana Capital and SIDBI. #ClimateAction #ClimateAdaptation #Resilience #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateFinance

Did you miss out on our masterclass? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Presenting the highlights from our insightful session on ‘Gender-Inclusive Climate Strategies: Women Leading Action and Policy’. Hosted by Meiyun Seleyi from Climate Asia, the masterclass was led by Mamta Borgoyary, Executive Director of SHE Changes Climate, who shared her insights on the intersection of gender and climate action. Here’s what we learned: 💡Why Gender Matters: Mamta highlighted that women are 14 times more likely to be affected by climate disasters and face increased risks like gender-based violence and child marriage. 💡Representation Gap: Women make up 51% of the population but are underrepresented in climate decision-making. Only six women have served as COP presidents, and women’s representation continues to decrease. 💡Women in Climate Action: Women drive agricultural productivity and build climate resilience. Countries with higher female representation in parliament are more likely to adopt robust environmental policies. 💡Voices for Change: Effective climate action requires the inclusion of women’s voices at all levels, from local communities to global negotiations. 💡Focus on Solutions: The session highlighted the need for actionable strategies to elevate women's leadership in climate initiatives, including policy-making and grassroots activism. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A with the speaker. 🌱We’re excited to share more stories from our cohort organisations' Climate Adaptation journey, this time spotlighting the impactful work of the Women Organisation For Rural Development (WORD). WORD is empowering communities in the Telkoi area through land reclamation, water harvesting, and climate-resilient agriculture. Their efforts have resulted in improved soil moisture retention, reduced erosion, and increased agricultural productivity. These measures are empowering over 50 households to grow crops sustainably, ensuring food security and financial stability. WORD's efforts go beyond agriculture, focusing on forest and environmental development to protect biodiversity and support rural livelihoods. By promoting Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), they enhance the economic well-being of tribal and rural communities while preserving vital forest resources. 💪 Stay tuned for more stories of change and innovation as we continue to celebrate the remarkable work of our NGO partners! #ClimateAsia #ClimateAdaptation #Sustainability #CommunityImpact
