Our very own Mr. Kok Rie Ooi (王国礼) MBA, BSc Computing 👏👏👏
Being invited as VIP to The 3rd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Fair for Trade in Services (BAFTIS) in Zhuhai, China. The event is the government initiative from Guangdong province, Hongkong and Macao hosted in Zhuhai City to attract foreign investments and business collaboration/partnership. Opening ceremony by Huang Zhihao (黄志豪), Deputy Secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and Mayor of Zhuhai and pleasure to have a photo taken with him. Beautiful city and plenty of business opportunities here. Visited Huafa Innovation Industrial Park and also have a tour to one of the top 3D industrial companies in China that can do printing like car and chairs. Simple awesome of the high tech Chinese companies that I met here of their innovative products, solutions and services. Lastly a good hotel stay with sea view of Macao and also Hengqin island across. #business #innovation #technology #industrial

I’m glad to share some bits from my recent interview on the #SDGs Progress, Setbacks, and the Cost of Falling Short Nearly a decade into the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) journey, the world faces a stark reality: despite initial momentum, many targets are now slipping out of reach. Globally, only 16% of #SDGtargets are on track, with the remainder seeing stagnant or even reversed progress. This trend is deeply concerning, especially as we approach the 2030 deadline amid global challenges like #climatechange, #foodinsecurity, and rising #poverty rates. The #Lag in #GlobalSDGProgress Several SDGs are particularly #offtrack. The hunger crisis has worsened post-pandemic, with approximately 9% of the world’s population suffering from hunger and nearly a third experiencing food insecurity. #SDG1, which aims to end poverty, is also facing setbacks. Extreme poverty has seen an uptick, affecting 712 million people globally, and low-income nations are struggling due to limited fiscal resources and the impact of economic downturns. Meanwhile, #SDG3 (Good #Health and #Wellbeing) has seen progress erode as health inequities remain unaddressed in many regions. Furthermore, #SDG13 (#ClimateAction) remains critically underfunded despite climate change’s undeniable effects on both #ecosystems and #economies. The #Financial #Needs and #Gaps Achieving the SDGs is fundamentally tied to financing. The SDG financing gap has widened drastically, now estimated at $4.2 #trillion annually. #Developingcountries, in particular, are left behind due to a lack of #access to #affordable, long-term #capital. Funding for #climateadaptation alone needs a major boost to prevent escalating damage from extreme weather, which disproportionately impacts the most #vulnerablecountries. The hunger crisis similarly demands significant funding, with a focus on creating #resilient and equitable #foodsystems. The Call for #SystemicChange To address this shortfall, experts urge a redesign of the global financial architecture. Suggested reforms include establishing new #financingmechanisms like #globaltaxation or #SDGbonds, which could mobilize the #trillions needed to close funding gaps. Additionally, strengthened #multilateralcooperation is essential for a coordinated response to #globalchallenges. SDGs serve as both a #roadmap and an #imperative. Closing the #financinggap is critical to avoid further setbacks, and it requires unprecedented global commitment. Only by recognizing the scale of the need and adjusting our financial systems can we hope to make real progress on this #ambitiousagenda.

We are glad that Salma El Masri has successfully conducted the External Assurance on Sustainability Reporting by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
I am happy to share that I've successfully completed the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) course on "External Assurance on Sustainability Reporting." This course offers a broad introduction to the practice of assurance of sustainability reporting and addresses how assurance can contribute not only to the quality of public disclosure, but also to improvements in an organization’s internal systems and processes. I honestly believe that continuous learning and staying up-to-date on the latest sustainability reporting standards are essential for driving positive change and building a more sustainable future. #GRI #Sustainabilityreporting #ESG

I’m glad to see the impact of my latest article in influencing the global climate agenda by launching the #RioTrio #Initiative. Couple of days ago, the #COP29 Presidency officially launched the Rio Trio Initiative, drawing on key ideas I explored in my article “A Year for the Environment.” This initiative represents a major step forward in aligning global efforts to address pressing environmental challenges. I am pleased to see the ideas from my article reflected in the ambitions of this initiative, which highlights the urgent need for coordinated global action to address the interconnected environmental issues we face. This collaboration serves as a powerful reminder that effectively tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and desertification requires a unified approach. The Rio Trio Initiative offers a vital platform to turn this vision into reality. Link to my article: https://lnkd.in/dJfjMCUe Link to COP29’s RioTrio: https://lnkd.in/dcn8giES

The world stands at a critical juncture in the fight against climate change. The recent discussions at #UNGA79 made one thing clear: time is running out, and the actions taken in the next few years will determine the future of the planet. Leaders and climate experts gathered in #NewYork, all with a common question in mind—how can we steer our world back on course toward a sustainable, low-carbon future? Central to the discussions were three interconnected pieces: the New Collective Quantified Goal (#NCQG) on climate finance, Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs), and the ambitious, yet imperiled, 1.5°C target. Read my full article "A Path of Ambition from UNGA 79 to #COP29", to know more.

#UNGA79 #SummitoftheFuture: A #breakthrough or #breakdown for sustainable development and climate action At the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79), several potential breakthroughs are expected, especially for developing countries, as they navigate the complex challenges of #sustainabledevelopment, #climatechange, and #finance. 1. #ClimateFinance: #DevelopingCountries are pushing for concrete actions to fulfill the long-standing $100 billion annual climate finance pledge, which remains unmet. This financial commitment is crucial to helping countries adapt to the worsening impacts of climate change and to transition towards cleaner energy sources. A breakthrough could come in the form of developed countries agreeing to increase contributions to the Green Climate Fund and other mechanisms under the New Collective Quantified Goal #NCQG, ensuring more equitable distribution of resources to the countries most affected by #climatechange. This would be a major step in reducing the gap between promised and delivered #climatefinance. 2. #SDG Progress Acceleration: As the world approaches the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda, many developing countries are struggling to meet their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) due to climate impacts, #economic instability, and inequalities. A breakthrough here would involve reforms in global financial institutions like the The World Bank and International Monetary Fund designed to improve access to funding for these countries. This could include new mechanisms for #debtrelief, #investment in sustainable infrastructure, and strategies that align international finance with the SDGs. UNGA 79 could become a turning point for aligning international efforts to accelerate progress toward these global goals. In summary, UNGA 79 #ClimateWeek has the potential to deliver significant breakthroughs in climate finance, SDG progress, and support for loss and damage, offering hope for more equitable global cooperation in addressing the critical challenges faced by developing countries. #ClimateWeek #NYC

Level Up Your Green Game: The #ISO's #CircularEconomy Toolkit for Businesses As the global conversation around sustainability intensifies, the circular economy emerges as a beacon of hope. This #economic model prioritizes keeping resources in use for as long as possible, minimizing #waste and #environmentalimpact. To support a smooth transition towards #circularity, the International Organization for Standardization (#ISO) recently released a comprehensive set of standards: ISO 59004, 59010, 59020, 59040, and 59014. These standards offer a #roadmap for organizations of all sizes. #ISO59004 establishes the core vocabulary and principles of the circular economy, providing a foundation for understanding and implementation. Building on this foundation, #ISO59010 guides businesses through transitioning their business models and value networks towards a more circular approach. This includes identifying areas for improvement, setting goals, and developing strategies to create a sustainable value chain. To measure success, #ISO59020 equips organizations with methodologies for data collection and indicator selection, enabling them to track progress towards circularity goals. For clear communication, #ISO59040 standardizes the way product circularity information is shared. This allows for the creation of Product Circularity Data Sheets (#PCDS) that disclose a product's #environmentalperformance throughout its lifecycle. Finally, #ISO59014 focuses on the responsible use of secondary materials, ensuring their sustainable and traceable recovery back into the #production #cycle. #CircularEconomy #ISOstandards
