Last month, Heather Sandvik, junior acquisition analyst at Cloud Lake Technology, was part of a group from Akima that traveled to the villages of Kotzebue, Buckland, Kivalina, and Selawik and experienced firsthand the complexities of living in the region. During the trip she connected with local students, introducing a LEGO robotics league in various schools, as well as visiting local institutions such as, KOTZ radio station, this year's Holiday Silent Auction beneficiary. Here’s what Heather had to say about her trip.
"I was thankful to get to be a part of this year's BWISE trip to the NANA region. I have visited the region three times before, however my previous trips have all been limited to Kiana, AK (the village my dad was born and spent part of his childhood in) as well as to the summertime. I was excited for the opportunity to see more villages and experience what the region is like during the colder months. Each time I visit the region, I'm impressed by the people. They are welcoming, kind, hardworking, proud, and love their home. I am proud to work for Akima and for a company whose mission is to support the communities we visited. I hope to go back to the region again soon."
