Congratulations to AFRICOM and Community Legal Services for this groundbreaking victory! Thank you for your leadership Dr. Eric Edi, PhD! #ImmigrantsGrowCommunities
The coalition of African communities (Africom) organized them and they won a historic battle in PA. Governor Shapiro signed HB 1820 eliminating the required cosmetology license for natural hair braiders in PA, freeing hundreds of women, mostly black immigrant women and micro-business owners to run their hair braiding business.

Last night we gathered to warmly welcome this year's incoming Independence Foundation Public Interest Law Fellows, including PHLP's @Meggie McCarthy-White. It was a joy to gather with such passionate legal aid professionals, all of whom share a commitment to improving access to justice. Thank you to the Independence Foundation for hosting such a wonderful welcome reception, and for the Foundation's continued, unwavering support for the Philadelphia legal aid community. 📷 credit: Debby Freedman/Community Legal Services

Huge news! After more than 6 months, the Nicetown-Tioga library will reopen on 10/28. CLS's Michael Froehlich & our partner Amelia Price recently shared how devastating the closure has been for clients & neighbors who access vital services at the library. https://lnkd.in/ePuEp6t2

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, CLS staff members took a field trip to Taller Puertorriqueño. Rafael Damast and Marilyn Rodriguez, a local educator and artist, lead us down El Centro De Oro, which is home to locally-owned business and community groups, pointing out the murals that celebrate Latinx culture along the way. They then gave us a private tour of their beautiful building and current exhibition, featuring the work of Colombian artist Alexis Duque. It was great to spend a crisp, fall day learning about this vibrant hub of Latinx culture and connecting with the staff at Taller!

It is with great excitement and pride to share that I have passed the Pennsylvania Bar Examination with a score high enough to practice in any UBE jurisdiction. I could not have done this without the unconditional support of my family and friends. As a first-generation law school graduate, I can't express how incredible it feels to see my childhood dreams come to life. I am deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness l've received from my family, friends, and mentors. I look forward to continuing my journey as a Staff Attorney in the Housing Unit at Community Legal Services. Beyond blessed that I got my dream job first year out of law school.
