  • Get ready to explore robotics with RoboLaunch! 🌎 🚀 Our next speaker is Assistant Professor Karen Leung from the University of Washington. 💻 🤖 Professor Karen Leung is the Juris Vagners and Linda Christianson Endowed Faculty Fellow in Aeronautics & Astronautics. Prior to joining the University of Washington, she was a research scientist at the Autonomous Vehicle Research Group at NVIDIA, where she currently holds a partial appointment. Karen received a Ph.D. and M.S. degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University.   • Get ready to explore robotics with RoboLaunch! 🌍 🚀 Our next speaker is Dr. Abhisesh Silwal, a Systems Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University's Field Robotics Center. 🤖 💻 Previously, Abhisesh completed his post-doctoral fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University and worked as a Senior Project Scientist in the Field Robotics Center. He received his Ph.D. from Washington State University and holds a Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering and an Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. Abhisesh's work is centered on systems research at the intersection of perception, navigation, manipulation and artificial intelligence. He received a Ph.D. in robotics and automation from the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research, Polish Academy of Sciences, and a M.S. in aircraft engineering from Warsaw University of Technology.   • Get ready to explore robotics with RoboLaunch! 🌎🚀 Our next speaker is Dr. Andreea Bobu, an incoming Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 🤖💻 Previously, Dr. Bobu served as a Research Scientist at the Boston Dynamics AI Institute. Prior to this, she obtained her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley with Professor Anca Dragan. She received her B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering at MIT. Dr. Bobu will be starting as an Assistant Professor at MIT in Fall 2024.   • Get ready to explore robotics with RoboLaunch! 🚀🤖🌎 Our next speaker is Assistant Professor Sylvia Herbert from UC San Diego. 🎉 Prior to joining UCSD, she received her PhD in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley, where she studied with Professor Claire Tomlin on safe and efficient control of autonomous systems. She earned her BS/MS at Drexel University in Mechanical Engineering, and is the recipient of the ONR Young Investigator Award, Hellman Fellowship, UCSD JSOE Early Career Faculty Award, UC Berkeley Chancellor’s Fellowship, NSF GRFP, UC Berkeley Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award, and the Berkeley EECS Demetri Angelakos Memorial Achievement Award for Altruism. He worked for John Deere 18 years in roles like director of technology innovation, director of customer support, and lead architect of automation and autonomy. In 2020, Alex founded Balanced Engineering, a consulting, training and engineering services company focused on architecture, product safety, and commercialization of highly automated off-road equipment, with customers in agriculture, construction, marine in the Americas and Europe. Alex and his family continue to raise Angus cattle in Chilean Patagonia.
