About us
CNA is a nonprofit research and analysis organization dedicated to the safety and security of the nation. It operates the Center for Naval Analyses — the only Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) serving the Department of the Navy — as well as the Institute for Public Research. CNA is dedicated to developing actionable solutions to complex problems of national importance. With nearly 700 scientists, analysts and professional staff, CNA takes a real-world approach to gathering data. Its one-of-a-kind field program places analysts on carriers and military bases, in squad rooms and crisis centers, working side-by-side with operators and decision-makers around the world. CNA supports naval operations, fleet readiness and great power competition. Its non-defense research portfolio includes criminal justice, homeland security and data management.

Independent journalist Johnny Harris wanted to understand how wargames work and their value as a military operations tool. At CNA, our Gaming and Integration Program develops customized designs, tailoring the game type, scenario, and mechanics to address the sponsor’s most complex problems. So, who better to help Johnny understand how they work? He joined our wargamers to play a game simulating an invasion of Taiwan by mainland China. Check out the video below to follow all the action and see what Johnny learned. https://lnkd.in/eeqWhyV8

Innovation, creativity, complex problem-solving, and cutting-edge research are all part of the #DNAofCNA. While we help the government tackle its most formidable research problems, we invest in independent research projects exploring new tools and approaches to addressing emerging challenges. Our Innovation Incubator (CNAi2) houses this work and celebrates the analysts behind it.
