For years I’ve been whispering (read: loudly sharing) that FS companies are missing a significant commercial opportunity when they ignore “main street” consumers and small businesses...and opportunity that is also inherently impactful to communities across the US. Oct 28th, I get to dive deep on stage at Money20/20 with some of the smartest folks in the space I know: Brian Luciani and Jean Smart. They are in the trenches every day helping these "main street" businesses grow, thrive and feed the economy. We’ll talk about the societal and market shifts as well as the business model shifts needed to address them. We'll contemplate what it'll take to turn Small Business into an even bigger engine of good economic and social outcomes. It's back to school week (always a magical time) in New York which prompted me to share an incredible experience from this summer (I can't believe its over). This summer I had the unique opportunity to continue my work with Cate Han and Hudson Lab Ventures and collaborate with Unicorn Factory Lisboa and progressive companies like José de Mello, to develop the Innovation Summer School program. The Innovation Summer School is not your typical educational program. It’s an immersive experience where high school students are given real-world challenges from leading companies and tasked with developing innovative solutions. These aren’t hypothetical scenarios; these are genuine problems that these businesses face, and they’re looking to the students for fresh, creative perspectives. Thrilled to see Barbara Sala's byline in Healthcare Business Today talking about how Delcon built OpenChair (https://lnkd.in/eJtVdB_e) to tackle blood shortages here in the U.S. I’ve worked closely with her and the team for several years and continue to be inspired by their commitment to solving big industry challenges through innovation. Earlier this year, the American Red Cross declared a national blood shortage, and Delcon has been on a mission to help solve that problem. Working together, we developed an AI-powered solution to help blood centers engage donors with more personalized communications. To date, we’ve seen incredible results (eg personalized messages generate over 30% lift in donations relative to control message) and are motivated by the positive impact we can have in the industry. Is your company leaving money on the table trying to avoid being perceived as "political"? Pull up a chair. I got to share my thoughts with The Fintech Times on how I think about handling the resistance to DEI efforts. Over the past year, we’ve seen incredible backlash to all kinds of initiatives seeking to diversify how businesses build and who they serve – but here's the thing...it is just not smart business. At Co-Created, we work across industries to help clients build new ventures and explore open spaces to deliver what I call “good growth”: commercially good and inherently impactful. As it pertains to DEI specifically, I’ve seen first-hand the power of teams changing the trajectory of big business with fresh perspective and status-quo-busting energy. My experience tells me that diversity is the engine of creativity and innovation. Not just who gets to build, but also 1) *which* problems and people get prioritized commercially and 2) who benefits from the success of these new businesses. 💡 Hint: It ain't charity.
