Did you know most communication is nonverbal? 😶 Albert Mehrabian, a psychology professor known for his research on communication, developed the 7-38-55 rule. He found that 55% of communication is nonverbal, 38% is vocal (tone and inflection), and only 7% is words. If we trust Mehrabian’s research, that means that less than 10% of communication happens through words. This makes Level Three Listening an incredibly important skill for coaches and leaders to have in their repertoire. "What brings you joy?" This was the icebreaker question I used for most of my classes and workshops this week. Hearing where other people are finding joy and connecting to my own joy is keeping my gas tank from running empty. Despite a commitment to see and feel joy, my tank is a long way from being full. The world is a hostile place for a lot of people right now, especially queer and trans folks and for Black and brown people. One of the things that's giving me joy and hope is being a part of Jeff Jacobson CPCC, PCC and Em House's leadership team, along with Jeremy Long, BA, PCC, CPCC 🌈. This is the first time there's been an all queer leadership team for this powerful program.
