We've all had a hectic summer this year. Let's meet this Saturday in Dolores Park to take a breath, share our goals and dreams for the close of the year, and create and strengthen connections in the Code2040 family. This event is open to mentors, current Fellows, and alumni! Bring your picnic blankets, layers (SF gets chilly!), and we'll provide snacks and refreshments. Feel free to bring food and drinks of your own (non-alcoholic). RSVP here: bit.ly/code2040-meetup

Working towards the proportional representation of Black & Latinx technologists in the innovation economy.
About us
Code2040 is a community of Black and Latinx technologists and their allies who are diversifying tech to create a more equitable, inclusive, and prosperous economy. Through high-impact direct service programs, robust in-person and online community engagement, and dynamic storytelling and knowledge sharing, Code2040 empowers and mobilizes diversity champions across the industry. Our goal is to ensure that by 2040 – the beginning of the decade when the US will be majority people of color – Black and Latinx people are fully represented in and leading the innovation economy, and have the economic and social capital needed to thrive and build generational wealth.

We made a bold shift this year at Code2040: we moved our focus away from companies and more toward our Fellows. In 2024, our Fellows cohort expanded from 50 to 100 students, with a program stretching from nine weeks to 10 months. Why? Because we believe that creating space for advocacy, community building, and collective growth is essential for dismantling the inequities that persist in tech. We’re proud to center our Fellows, knowing that by supporting and equipping them, we’re laying the groundwork for a future where equity is embedded in the DNA of tech, not just a passing priority. This is what happens when community takes the lead. Read the full blog piece on our website at code2040.org/blog

Thank you, BITCON, for having our CEO, Mimi Fox Melton, to lead a transformative workshop at this year's conference! 🙌✨ Mimi addressed the pressing need to confront white supremacy and patriarchy in the tech sector and shared how Code2040 is standing in the gap to support racial equity advocates who are imagining a more humane, inclusive tech industry. She also discussed the importance of rethinking how tech operates—from AI to workplace culture—and how racial equity is the pathway to designing a future where we all thrive. Our fight for racial equity is not just about inclusion—it’s about liberation, freedom, and a future where tech serves us all. Thank you, BITCON, for creating space for these critical conversations. We’re excited to continue building momentum toward a more equitable industry!

Thank you for creating a future with us rooted in the imaginations of Black and Latinx minds. Thanks to our beautiful community, we were able to meet our goal and raise $50k this summer. Your support continues to make it possible to create programs that provide mentorships and career development to our latest cohort which is 100% Black and Latinx and primarily women and nonbinary folks! You all understand as we do that our collective power is necessary to build an equitable future in tech, and we are so grateful to be a part of this movement with you all. Your commitment to racial equity allows Code2040 to continue responding to the needs of Black and Brown technologists. With the perspectives, wisdom, and genius of Black and Latinx people, tech will serve and represent the full spectrum of our society. Thank you for being in this work with us!

Imposter syndrome can be tough, but Code2040 Fellow Jorge Garcia found strength in community. “My experience with Code2040’s Welcome Weekend reminded me to look back at my growth, rather than compare myself to those on a different journey than me.” Read on our blog at code2040.org/blog!

As we wrap up another incredible Fellows Program, we’re filled with pride and gratitude. Fellows Program 2023-2024 came to a close this month, and we couldn’t be more excited for them to join our ever-growing network of Code2040 alumni! 🎓✨ It’s bittersweet to see this chapter close, but we know this is just the beginning of their journey as changemakers in tech. To celebrate, we’re taking a look back at Welcome Weekend—the event that kickstarted it all. The energy, passion, and connections from that weekend still fuel us today. From hands-on workshops to heartfelt conversations, Welcome Weekend reminded us of the power of community and the importance of coming together. And as we look ahead, we’re thrilled to welcome our next cohort of fellows this September. New adventures await, and we can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together. 💫
