Hard to believe one of my favorite annual conferences concluded just last Thursday - The Republican Governors Association’s Senior Staff Retreat! The 2024 retreat did not disappoint. Some of the country’s best and brightest staff attend and present unique perspectives on the challenges and opportunities their respective Governors and colleagues face. Great topics were discussed like energy, health care, AI, permitting, and just good governance. Always fun to see old friends, make new ones, and see best practices problem solving at its best. Governors and their staff truly represent some of the best public servants in the country. Cannot wait until 2025’s retreat! The venues also don’t suck 😝Thank you RGA! #government #publicpolicy #governors #advocacy #publicaffairs #washingtondc #washington #states

It was a pleasure to moderate a panel during National Clean Energy Week on Accelerating Energy Investments Across America. The audience heard from energy leaders Abigail Ross Harper, Dan R Brouillette, JC Sandberg, John Di Stasio and Craig Sundstrom about how their industries are benefiting from the #InflationReductionAct, and the obstacles to clean energy deployment. Spoiler alert: we need comprehensive #permittingreform! #NCEW24 Solar Energy Industries Association Edison Electric Institute American Clean Power Association (ACP) Large Public Power Council Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Helping clients secure victories across public affairs is our MO here at Cogent.    As policies and regulations continue to evolve in the landscape of artificial intelligence, it’s crucial that every company understand how their use or development of #genAI may pose a litigation risk to their business and consumers. The team at #EqualAI, in collaboration with former Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, has put in the work to ensure that every decision-maker grasps the risks and legal obligations surrounding AI.   Congratulations to EqualAI and Miriam Vogel for this groundbreaking publication!

As we enter the September work period just two months before the presidential election, Congress faces a packed agenda with limited time. Here's what to watch:    ⏰ Tight Schedule: Both chambers return on Sept. 9, with only 13 House and 15 Senate legislative days before the Sept. 30 recess    📆 Big September Events: Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference (Sept. 11-15); Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference (Sept. 17-19); National Clean Energy Week (Sept. 23-27)    Legislation On The Horizon: 🔄 FY25 Continuing Resolution, 🚜 Farm bill, ⚓️ Coast Guard, 🌊 Flood insurance, 💻 Kids Online Safety Act, ☣️ Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's safety programs    🇨🇳 China Focus: Does the House pull off a "China Week" to address economic and national security threats?    ❓Key Questions: Will the House adjourn earlier than Sept. 27? What will be the length and content of the CR? Will it be "clean" or include additional measures?    With high-stakes issues and the looming election, passing a CR and critical program extensions in September will tee up an intense lame duck session.    #Congress2024 #Legislation #CHC #CBC #NCEW

If you asked us one month ago which party’s convention would feature more camo hats, our money wouldn’t have been on the #DNC. Now that Kamala Harris tops the ticket and the red carpet is being rolled out to introduce Tim Walz to voters nationwide, our predictions for the Democratic National Convention are looking a bit different.    Will there be coconut tree merch? 🥥🌴 How about big celebrity sightings? 📸 Whether you’re shipping out to Chicago next week or tuning into coverage from the couch, play along with our #DNC bingo cards!

While the (still delayed 🚜) #FarmBill attempts to cross party lines, our leading agricultural expert Taylor is crossing state lines and reconnecting with influential leaders like Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, GT Thompson (R-PA). Whether on Capitol Hill or in Happy Valley 🐄, Taylor spends both her 9-5 and her 5-9 advocating for critical industries alongside Congress’ finest.

I had the pleasure of spending the 4th of July with college and family friends in central Pennsylvania, a place that is near and dear to my heart. 💙 We volunteered at the Brockway Old Fashioned 4th of July parade and even had a celebrity sighting – my old boss and Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, GT Thompson. The man never misses a chance to advocate for #farmers and the #dairy industry. 🐄 I rounded out the weekend at Penn State University, where Logan Hoover was a trooper listening to me reminisce endlessly. Our last stop had to be the world famous Berkey Creamery. Penn State has been an authority in dairy research since 1865, and leaders from all of your favorite grocery store brands fine tuned their skills there, including Ben & Jerry’s and Häagen-Dazs. Today, 200+ Holsteins are milked twice daily to create the most delicious and fresh ice cream in the world. Why is it so good? It might have something to do with that 14.1% butterfat content! 😋 Before heading back to DC, I decided to advocate for the dairy industry the best way I know how – loading up my Yeti cooler with as many pints of ice cream and as much dry ice as possible! 🍦
