#Opportunity vs #Obligation It's too often the case that #sustainability disclosure, #ESG reporting and other #ResponsibleBusiness practices get reduced to a tiresome compliance exercise and then become perceived within the company as an administrative burden to be avoided or minimised: just get the boxes ticked, fill up the pages of the sustainability report, complete the ESG questionnaire. But looked at from the angle of #opportunity rather than #obligation, being an exemplary #CorporateCitizen will: • create competitive advantage • increase investor confidence and • safeguard reputational capital. Authentic #CorporateCitizenship should also smooth relations with regulators, legislators, NGOs, think tanks, unions and civil society activists as well as the media, all of whom expect more than a self-serving corporate narrative. Aligning a #360ºCorporateCitizenship approach with company milestones — management meetings, investor days, earnings releases, CEO speeches at Davos or attendance at COPs or Climate Week — can serve to coordinate dispersed corporate initiatives and to enhance the company's holistic management of relationships with all its #stakeholders. WHAT IMAGES TEACH US Manage Smarter and Better Through Art: Why Developing a Painter’s Eye Can Unlock Success At Work A lot more about topics and clients on my website https://lnkd.in/ers_9UsZ #vanessabadre.com WHAT IMAGES TEACH US ABOUT DISABILITIES AND HUMAN BEINGS The #ParalympicGames owe a lot to two #pioneers: 🥇 #SirLudwigGuttmann, a neurologist who wanted to accelerate the recovery of British Royal Air Force pilot veterans in wheelchairs after WWII. He organized the first competition for them in 1948 when the Olympic Games took place in London, followed in 1954 by the first international competition at Stoke Mandeville. 🥇 #EuniceKennedyShriver, founder of #SpecialOlympics, was a pioneer in the worldwide struggle for the rights and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities. She put that vision into action in 1962 by inviting young people with intellectual disabilities to a summer day camp she hosted in her backyard. She called it "#CampShriver." In July 1968, the first #InternationalSpecialOlympics Games were held in Chicago. Mexican artist #FridaKahlo (1907–1954) began to paint🖌 in 1925 while recovering from a near-fatal bus accident that devastated her body and marked the beginning of lifelong physical ordeals. She created a self-portrait showing the signs of her disabilities🖌. Although her whole body is supported by a corset, she looks straight ahead and challenges both herself and her audience to face her situation. By embracing ❤️ the critical and creative insights on health, limitation, woundedness, loss, adaptation, and care ❤️ developed by disabled and ill communities, we can better navigate and preserve our changing, endangered world. ❤️ ❤️ Jean-Christophe BeauAnne BEAU-REDERTugdual DervillePhilippe ColombetFrédéric Monlouis-FélicitéLaurent de CheriseyBertrand BadréBertrand FinetAlix MontagneJean-Luc NEEZAlexandre BompardFabienne Alamelou MichailleValerie KellerLisa BarlowBrune PoirsonCharlotte DenneryMatthieu CourtecuisseMatthieu BaretClémence BaretMarc DunoyerBenoit d'HalluinNicolas ChamussyNicolas BergeraultLyric WinikCecile RABAULTAnne ChaminadeRomaric ChabertIsabelle Mateos y LagoIsabelle NarbeburuNaima HachadBalthazar SchlumbergerSusanne Eberhardthervé ANDORREVincent Minvielle

#NonStateActors in international affairs: background and context from Nicholas Dungan, CEO of CogitoPraxis
Twenty-one years ago, in the spring of 2003, Count Étienne Davignon and I crafted a proposal for Chatham House and EGMONT - Royal Institute for International Relations which resulted in a joint study project between the two think tanks focused on #NonStateActors in international affairs culminating in a two-day closing conference, with the participation of scores of experts from around the world, held at the Palais d'Egmont in #Brussels in December 2004. Stevie Davignon and I entitled the project and the conference #PowerAndResponsibility because we believed that #NonStateActors often exercised more power and assumed less responsibility than they should for the totality of their actions as global citizens. We meant the term #NonStateActors to encompass not only terrorist groups and NGOs — the narrow definition which most professional diplomats would adopt — but the entire range of powerful and influential participants in the international system which are not themselves fully-fledged states: intergovernmental organisations, global enterprises, professional services firms, financial institutions, the mainstream media industry, cultural and religious actors, business moguls, sports icons and pop stars. Building on this concept, at the request of my alma mater Sciences Po, I then created and taught a course on the changing role of #NonStateActors in international affairs at the Sciences Po campus in #Reims for nearly ten years as a #ProfessorOfPractice. The insightful Financial Times column below from #GideonRachman regarding #ElonMusk bears out much of the thinking behind the work done on #NonStateActors at Chatham House, EGMONT - Royal Institute for International Relations and Sciences Po and demonstrates the continuing relevance of the issues which Stevie Davignon and I raised at the beginning of this century. Beyond the hype around #ElonMusk, the reality is that ALL global businesses and ALL of their #CEOs, #chairpersons and #BoardDirectors are in fact #NonStateActors. As a result, without being 'unguided geopolitical missiles' à la #Elon, they all need to be aware of, and held to account for, the judicious exercise of their #PowerAndResponsibilty. Congratulations to André Hoffmann from CogitoPraxis
There’s no greater feeling for an author than receiving the first copies of your book. We had that feeling yesterday. You can order our book now! In “The New Nature of Business”, my co-author @Peter Vanham and I talk about how companies can serve society better, by building their human, social and environmental capital alongside their financial capital. That’s a logic that too often still missing in the business world today. But it need not be that way. We look at my own family company, @Roche, and the journey it (and our family) took to become more sustainable. And we look at other leading and innovative companies, such as @Innergia, a local, renewable energy cooperative, @Holcim, the materials construction company aiming to be “nature positive”, @IKEA, which under @Jesper Brodin’s leadership has taken its broader role in society to heart, and @Schneider Electric, which is helping companies save energy. If you’re intrigued, please do order your copy today. I provide some links below. There’s no greater support you can give us than to leave the first reviews on Amazon, Goodreads and elsewhere. UK: https://lnkd.in/e5idbrTX US: https://lnkd.in/edMFSMN6 Bookshop.org (supporting local bookshops): https://lnkd.in/evy9niMS Switzerland: https://lnkd.in/ezavBpcb Germany: https://lnkd.in/ePe5QRaE France: https://lnkd.in/e5GsKtdZ And if you’d like to know more, please contact me or Peter for a presentation. We’ll go to @IMD, the @Graduate Institute, @INSEAD, @Oxford University, @Cambridge University, @Yale University, @Harvard University and many other places in the coming months. We’d love to present in your company too!

It’s time to switch from ‘Big is Hot’ to ‘Small is Cool’. The developed world remains in the grip of a culture of excess, where bigger is often equated with better. From oversized SUVs to McMansions, conspicuous consumption has become a hallmark of modern society, fuelling not only environmental degradation but also social inequality. In an article for the Financial Times, I argue that public policy could help accelerate a shift in social norms away from destructive materialism with radically progressive consumption taxes on resource-intensive goods. People using bigger cars or living in bigger homes would pay more, making smaller options more attractive. The revenues could be used to incentivise the consumption of smaller goods and services, while reducing inequality via tax relief for the lower paid. #sustainability #fiscalpolicy #circulareconomy Jack Oliver Mike Clark Tim Lenton Garth Davies Kate Raworth Antonio Vizcaya Abdo Jonathon Porritt Dr Jack Barrie Andrew McAfee Tim Jackson Charmian (Char) Love Rob Dellink Ken W.
